Title: steering wheel boss

i have  problem with my steering wheel, its come loose off the support in the middle round the edge
i have 2 replacements and they dont fit.
i reckon that it has a boss to make it larger on at the minute, and if this is the case the new wheels wil fit.
i have bought 2 standard wheels but i just dont see why there would be a boss.
anyone with any info please?

big spline/small spline?

ive been told that it has the big spline over the top off the small spline.
according to VW the big spline can be removed so im goin to have a go later and update you all if anyone has the same problem
