Title: Starting problems on my tdi

Scince i bought my car its never liked starting when hot but always starts after a good crank for about 15 seconds!
Some time there is a little air bubble in the clear fuel pipe that leads from the pump to the fuel rail?
I've replaced all the return pipes at i thought there air may be of been leaking in?
has any one else ever had this problem?

your getting air drawn in from somewhere, any leaks visible anywhere includig fuel filter and tank?

I had the same problem. It may have been drawing air in from the 'T' piece area on the fuel filter. I replaced the hose clamps, fuel filter and 'T' piece seals. I still see a couple of air bubbles in there occasionally but it is nowhere near as bad.

I say 'may' as I replaced the battery at around the same time. The old one was getting weak and the replacement significantly increased the cranking speed.

I will give that ago as the old girl needas a good service lol :shocked:

I have replaced the battery a while ago n it did help, but now i think the alternator is going?

I've tested it and at idle i'm getting just over 14v's but with all the lights fan wipers etc etc on it drops to 12v???

Is that bad?

That's probably just about normal, althogh if it goes any higher it will be a regulator gone.
