It's not something I've ever had any concerns about when putting a car in for MOT.... it is more likely to be an advisory, although if they can't get to the spare to check that they might be arsey.

Didnt check my spare. Been a bit of debate about that and I dont think its a requirement.

The spare tyre is not checked as part of the MOT. Obviously, if the 'spare' tyre is actually fitted to the vehicle, then it will be checked in the normal way. 'Temporary Use' spare tyres will fail the MOT if fitted at the time of the MOT Test.

you dont need a spare for the MOT. But if you have one it must be pumped up and the tyre must be in good condition.
As for the boot, iirc, it doesnt have to open from the outside but there has to be a method of opening it from the inside (in case of accident)

i was under the impression that if a spare wasn't fitted you had to have that daft tyre foam.

i remember this too because my last mk2's boot never locked properly and had to be opened with a piece of string. i rook the lock out the mechanism for the mot so it could open and shut with the button though. at the time i remember looking at mot test criteria on the net but can't seem to find it now for either points.

I think that as long as your covered by someone (AA, RAC, Green Flag) then you dont need the gooey foam thing. Cos you can call them to come and repair the puncture for you (iirc).
Most EU countries require you to have a spare tyre in the boot though, but there are lots of new cars that dont come with spare tyre as factory standard, instead they come with the foam bottle thing.

As said already I cant even remember them opening the boot when mine was MOT'd and you dont need a spare wheel or tins of tyre foam !

you don't need a spare or foam, just if you don't and get a puncture at 1 in the morning in the middel of nowhere you can garantee that your phone is flat or has no signal and it'll be raining.

if spare is there it has to be legal

Wait!

A tester I know says he needs to have access to the rear floor (corrosion etc)  you could view from the back seats, just depends how agreeable your tester is.

asked our guys at work ref the spare tyre question...

apparently they will only check the spare if it is easily accessible. even so, if it is flat/bald it becomes an advisory, NOT a failure.
