Not worth it unless you're using it on the track. Manual steering is so much more fun than PAS.

much prefer PAS on mk2 golfs,   have driven non pas the steering isn't that heavy but the rack is longer,  find pas easyer for general parkign ect  but also the shorter rack and power asistance is usefull when playing as you can pile lock on faster when needed.  imo it a better car with pas  that why so meany had it

ive had one without pas thinking it may be better but it wasnt, i much prefer pas on a mk2

For fitting you will need

Rack
Steering UJ
Pipes
Bottle & bracket
Pump brackets
Bottom pulley
Belts
And the bracket to hold alternator etc on

I think thats it

'they' say the 16v pas rack is quicker than a normal pas rack too, not really seen anything to back this up but the part numbers do differ in etka!

Wouldn't a 16V PAS rack be stronger than an 8V? Can you pop a 16V rack on an 8V?

wouldn't say it would be any stonger, but yeah it'll bolt on direct.  I dont think its worth the hassle if you already have a perfectly fine pas rack, but maybe if yours is broke or you're upgrading a 16v one would be more desirable.  iirc the early corrado rack is the same as the MK2 16v, cant get access to me copy of ETKA to double chack.

wee bit more work involved than "popping" on a steering rack.

Not really, just depends what's in the engine bay at the time

i have found with the pas you can actually adjust how 'assisted' it is by the tension of the belt to a certain extent
