Title: MOT tomorrow!
Post by: Dec on 25 September 2008, 22:11
Pretty nervous about it too!

Checked all the usual (as far as im aware anyway!) stuff like lights, break pads, washers work, horn, tyres and suspension and a few other bits and pieces aswell but im worried about the emissions most of all i think!

This will be the first time ive taken a car to an MOT so im not sure how vigilant they are!

Any other pointers of last minute checks? Ive been over the lists etc but not sure if i missed something silly!

if you are worried about emissions, get some injector cleaner and rag the f*** out of it (when its warm obviously)

bushes and mountings will be checked, so check for play especially on ARB links, wishbones, ball joints etc. also look for corrosion around suspension/steering mounting points.

wiper blades decent?

screen wash topped up?

number plates in good nick?

number plate bulbs working?

most places dont charge for a retest within 10 days, so you have a few days to get it sorted.

Not sure about the wishbones and stuff but i did give the wheels a wiggle when I had it jacked up checking the brakes so should hopefully be ok. Only other thing im not sure on is the wiper blades but they should be ok :\

A little trick for some of you. If your rear calipers are abit weak (handbrake mechanism) and your MOT man lets you sit in the car and do the brake test...

Pull the handbreak up and press the footbrake too. Works everytime

Oh well, I thought they only worked if the key was in pos 2 (or is it 1?? key turned but not ticked over)

Not like I check them myself anyway, that's what the missus is for
