Post by: mpgscott on 25 September 2008, 21:24
Hi,

Car has a loud drone noise sounds like its coming from the offside front any ideas how hard the wheel bearings are to change??

Anyone know of a good way to check which one it is??

Idiot guide to changing would be handy

Cheers

bought my bearings and had kwick fit do it u needed to repress them or something and they needed a special machine, not sure what it was but would recommend to check with local garage, as they normally take a look for free for ya!

you need a press....most decent garages have them and should charge about £30-40 for fitting each side

Mates rates dont apply to other users unfortunatly.

But people have said it can be done yourself, with a "bar" or "tube" the correct size to press it in. But yeah..... go to a garage.

Piece of piss mate.

Did 2 rear ones today and you don't need a special tool - any long piece of metal will fit in and then you can whack em out with a hammer. I'm a complete novice at mechanics too! Just make sure you really re-grease the buggers back up.
