Title: Wheel Spraying
Post by: Dec on 24 September 2008, 21:41
Hey all.

I have some rims sitting in my shed at the moment in need of some tyres. The paint on them isn't in the best of conditions so I was thinking of spraying them black while the old tyres were still on (doesnt matter about overspray or bothering to mask them off then!).

Just wondering if anyone had a guide on how to do it?

Think this is sort of what needs doing?

Heres a pic of the wheels, shouldnt be too hard as they arent exactly the trickiest of wheels to clean or anything! (The car they came off - the same colour as mine!)

Anything will help really!

Thanks,
Dec

oh yeah it is best to remove the tryes.....your local trye place will do it for a few £££ (I did 2 with tryes fitted and was really unhappy when finished..so i re-did them with tryes off)

Oops :embarassed: Thanks mate missed it!

How did you get such a good finish? I havent been able to spray anything properly because its been to cold (or so my dad said!) is that why you sanded inbetween layers?

i didnt sand between top coats but i made sure they were perfectly primed and then spent several days building up the top coat layers...followed by laquer over the next few days
basically take your time and they will look

Ahh cool.

My dads friend owns a bike garage with a spray booth (for bikes) so cant fit a car through the door which is a mega shame! but he said that he'll spray the wheels for me if i rub them down and get and scuffs out

Seems like the easy option out really!
