Gets the drum roll set up for RedRobin's entrance...
-
Love em, great compromise for comfort and handling for everyday use.
Matched mine with some H&R springs to get that better look

It's as neg says - Excellent for fast road use - Very real-world practical. But if you need trackday adjustability then KW V3, or Bilstein if you have deep pockets.
I've run mine for nearly 50,000 miles :afro: Just make sure you use them with the springs which Koni recommend for their FSD's - Several options.

cheers guys , was going to use the standard springs as dont really want to lower it (would nt mind 10 mm or so but no more ) but i dont know of any springs that will do this ?
robin , might have crossed wires about revo/cc on other tread i ve looked at other remap but find cc keep it simple but very affective ! from the user s point of view
-
....The Koni Pro-Kit springs are suitable for the FSD's and will only lower 5-10 mm. You should have an alignment done after they have settled - A hard 10 miles should be enough.
Oh, check you get the appropriate size Koni 'heads' - Either 50 or 55 mm IIRC.

I think if you are gonna go for FSD's it would be silly to put standard spring's on the car. Something like H&R are relatively inexpensive and make the car look so much better! Neg's car which I have seen in the flesh has a stance to die for and he told me that the ride in terms of comfort hardly changed! Just my opinion of course

I have taken a few other members and even Kev from Revo - they all commented how well it felt and expected it to be worse but it wasnt the case.
-
....Revo Kev drove mine only last week and asked about the suspension.

hi neg , have you got any pics of your car mate apart from the ones on your sig ?
-
You have PM
-
cheers mate ,looking good !! how many mm did the set up you have lower it ? i m not sure if the gti and the edition 30 have the same ride height as standard, i was led to believe the ed30 was 15 mm lower than a gti to start out ?? :undecided:(http://)(http://i337.photobucket.com/albums/n374/candyturbo_2008/DSCF1318.jpg)
this is standard apart from 10 mm rear wheel spacers
-
GTI and Ed30 have identicle suspension from factory which is lower than the normal golf by approx 15mm
I think it was about 20mm by the end of it, enough to look better but not cause any problems, have had a full load and get no rubbing etc - bear in mind I am runnign 19's you will be even better with 18's

....The Ed30 and GTI have the same ride height and that is 15 mm(?) lower than the standard Mk5 Golf. I don't know what the GT ride height is.

so what springs are you using ?
-
so what springs are you using ?
H&R, I was going for Eibach but it was when there were production issues with the rear springs so after a lot of research I opted for the other popular choice which was H&R - probably more popular over in the states which is where I got most the info from.
-
A lot of research , you just let me do the donkey work
-
what set up do you recommend gaz ? yours had the stance spot on imo cheers
-
Ah yes, Gaz having the problems with the Eibach rears which saved me a LOAD of hassle :smug:

....What were those problems, please?
-
Mentioned before, the rear height problems when it didnt actually lower the car at all - in fact I think it raised it slightly so gave a dragster look

I ended up going the Eibach coilover route pal so I could get the height just how I wanted it, and it was
-
Gaz - if your were to do it again which way would you go....
-
Great question, thats where I'm at now?????, yours still looks spot-on, but I've never been in it so can't comment on ride/handling etc, although I'm sure its pretty good.
I was really impressed with Eibach coilovers, reasonably priced, good qualitiy, not to harsh in fact not sure it was any harder than std but deffinately more controlled. Plus you get to set it up just how you like it
There are so many options out there its a mine field, I was looking at the H&R springs and FSD's for the S3, but when I've seen the springs on the S3's the rears a little lower, but thats with std dampers. I'm tempted to go the coilover route again so I don't have the ride height issue again
-
Well, I for one can also definitely recommend the Eibach coilovers. As Gaz has already said they enhance the control, but don't let the ride suffer. I would go as far to say that the damping is far superior to the standard set up and as a result ruts and undulations in the road are smoothed out more successfully.
-
Gaz - you'll have to try it a the next meet ;)
-
Will do pal
