which way round does the oil cooler go. Its a standard cooler that bolts up to the filter housing on a kr 16v engine
-
Pictures might help here.
-
smooth side goes against the filter
-
Ah but a 'standard' cooler could be an aftermarket 'standard' one, rather than an OEM one.
Assuming stuff like it being OEM makes an ASS out of U and ME (and him).
-
ah but if aftermarket the oil cooler would be seperate, and the questionable item would be the sandwich plate. my moneys on oem

and the sandwich plate would still be that way around, so your not trying to put two rubber seals together.
Incidentaly, what order did you put your sndwich plate & standard cooler? i went housing ->standard cooler -> sandwich -> filter
all this talk of sandwiches is mking me hungry.
-
If you're in need of sanwiches you should have a drive of this:

It's powered by 'unger.
I hear it stops well when thirsty, too (shortly before breaking down).

yep same here.

Is that the filter side
In the absence of any response from the other genii I reckon that's the filter housing side, although I've not seen one in a while as I've not done an oil change in a bit.
-
yep looks like it, im pretty sure the other side has a raised lip
-
thats the filter side, the housing side is a bit different and has metal tabs sticking up which are for the seal to hook onto (on a gen vag cooler anyway) you'll know which way is right when you try to fit the seal, it should sit inside a recessed bit not on a flat bit
edit: filter housing side, notice the metal tabs and larger recessed area for seal to sit in

edit2: if you have an oil filter lying about, test fit it to the cooler, you'll soon realise which way is right when you see where the oil filter seal sits

cheers fot that
