can anyone tell me if takeing the power steering pump of a mk2 gti is just a case of taking it of and and putting a smaller belt on my pump has gone and i cant afford a new one just yet so think im guna take it off if i can its doing my nut and steering is too heavy and squeeling its tits off any help apriciated in advance

problem is without fluid in it the rack will die too, so you need to loop the ends together and make sure it has fluid in the system.  If your pas pump is run direct from the crank pulley just chop the belt, if it also runs the waterpump pulley you can't disable it that way otherwise the waterpump wont run!

Just how skint are you, I have a known good one 'in stock', £20+pnp sound good?

edit: if its squeeling are you sure its not just a slipping belt casuing you all this trouble?

ok so taken the pas of leaving the pipes there the belt ran around 3 pullys one of which is the water pump however the water pump has 2 pluys on it the inside one has the alternator belt running it so i took the belt of the outside pully it doesent overheat after a thrash so i presume the water pump is being driven by alternator belt of the crank so i think im safe there i am interested in this pas pump mate i would like all the pipes to

does this soun right to you or have i done something wrong ?

engine management light came on so now put pum back on with no pipes connected though i hate my car right now one of my all time favirote cars is a disapointment wish i never sold my starlet gt

if the waterpump has a double pulley you need to check that the inner pulley will definitly drive the waterpump.  some have a double pulley setup, one of which is a 'slipper' pulley which  freewheels.  If you take off the wrong belt the waterpump wont be drivn properly!  I'm afraid all I have is the pas pump, pm me :)
