Title: Serious Problems with the valver...
Post by: Rmachines on 23 September 2008, 12:23
Im trying to get my valver conversion to turn over but its not having any of it!

This is the problem im having.

When the battery is connected the windscreen wipers come on - even with the ignition off... The switch makes no diffrence they stay on untill the battery is disconected.

The hazards and full beam are staying on regardless of what i do but the hazards or on constant with no flashing.

When i go to turn the ignition on,  nothing happens what so ever, no warning lights.. nothing.   When i go to start the engine.. nothing happens.

Any ideas whats going on here?  I cant put my finger on it, everything is conected as it should be,  the only thing is there are a couple of switches etc.. which are not pluged in yet like the rear window heater etc..

sounds like u have problem with the positive battery side of the starting motor wiring, can cause many strange problems when u turn the key, if not can be a earth fault, wouldnt of thought it would be a fusebox problem as the connectors only connect one way into the fusebox.

Yea i know you cant really go wrong with the fuse box, its possible the starter wiring is wrong, it was so long between taking it off and refitting the engine i forgot everything.  I need to get some pictures i think.

All the starter wiring is ok now,  i did make one mistake, i put the earth from the battery to the stater motor bolt insted of the bell housing but still made no diffrence when i changed it.

The dials dont come on as they should, the milage etc.. doenst show up but the indicator and full beam lights stay on constantly, and the winds screen wipers wont stop.    cant figure it out.

Ok well basicly VW are very very stupid people...   or i am.

They wont allow any of the plugs to be connected to the wrong holes... accept the Main + and Main - feed which can be put in the oposite holes on the fuse box... and i did exactly that.

Now the indicators work perfectly,  but... nothing else does.   The starter will click and then click off and it will do it only once ...  i have to take the battery off and reconect to make it do it again.

Still no milage on the dials.

Indicator stork has no effect, so no switches work.

EDIT- I now have milage, but no warning lights with ignition.   If i turn the key the solonoid click and the milage goes off the dials untill i reconnect the battery.

Ok... Another update

The car is now turning over on the key... but there is no warning lights what so ever.  Only indicators work.    Other than that so far it seems ok.
