I dont know about other people but the engine is very important when it comes to the looks of a car... you just cant beat a shiney valver or a custom fitted FSI engine, but just a well used dirty oily onld 1.4 engine still does it for me... anyway post up your bay pics im curious as to what every one has done ... or not done under the hood

vdubbster
What is that sticking up from your brake fluid cap?
Also what is the pipe going across the top of your battery?
Nice shiny inlet manifold.
Paul
-
Haha, the pipe is my wheel wrench thing. Left it in the bay by mistake
And that on the brake fluid lid shows the fluid level
-
I've got one of them too!! The crazy purple bobby thing! Also got a battery cover too! :D
Vdubster - nice job on the manifold, how long did that take & what did you do??
-
It's interesting to see how many cone filters are out there, which apart from an awesome noise [fair comment] does bugger all for performance based on the engine breathing in hot air from the surrounding block etc cold feed or not.

well it made my car drive a hell of alot better, alot smoother, and they aint quite as pointless as the drilled airbox and 50 quid replacement filter route hahaha

This took the pi33, I just got the sand paper out and started to sand 80 grit to about 600. I used some sanding mop type things on my drill where I could. But the tight areas are an arse. But looks good, just need to do the rocker cover
Then used a polishing mop set from ebay which was about £15.

 There are some tidy engine bays out there! Are they just cleaned/sanded to be so mint, or are new/replacement parts needed along the way? Can see me going this route..
-
mine is all the OE parts, which were alot worse for wear than any iv seen on here yet..took my engine to bits basically....
-
You must have a lot of time on your hands  I think engine out would be the only way. No idea how I'm going to explain that to the missus..
-
engine dont have to come out, mine didnt and its mint now....has taken a yearof messing about and im still on it now, do it as and when i can, i lead a busy lifestyle so its hard to get the time in
a few more of mine... with the only new part added to the bay, a new coolant bottle

I'm embarrassed to show mine coz it's totally standard, dirty and I can't be 4rsed to clean it. But then again mine is not for show, it's a daily workhorse. Next year... :embarassed:
-
my Gti is also my daily hack, other car is even cleaner under the hood
-
yours is inspiriation for us all that use ours as daily drivers. ive gotta go through a rebuild first though. my valve stem oil seals are on the way out and it aint good.

Oh heres a pic of my engine bay, need a new battery cover tbh, put mine in the wash coz it was greasy an now its fallin to bits, going to polish the inlet mani soon just like vdubs and will probs paint the rocker cover in hamerite black, an looking at kell's bay i may just invest in a coolant bottle

-
Yea, nice rumble at higher revs but far better throttle response & car felt torque-ier (?!) no complaints from me!! :D
I think Kells wins this hands down, I've given up cleaning mine until I get round to fitting the engine under tray, just get so much sh!t off the road as soon as you drive it! :undecided:
-
thanx (again) 88mph...always giving my car big ups
@azzrobz
sorry for those who hate jap/loud mods etc etc, i know its not your thang, as you can see, totally different direction to where i am going with my Golf.... but its a great car 160bhp

oh thank you very much means alot to me!, :smiley:i know the jap stuff isnt everyones bag, but that car does mean a hell of a lot to me, certain memorys and iv been through alot to get her to how she is today
i do love my cars, and i love the older hot hatches from the 90's

Whoof! Nice touch with the handles!
-
wasnt easy getting those to work  it also has a genuine transporter wing vent on the other side for the K&N filter
hope to turbo it soon which takes it to around 220 HP, going to the 1/4 mile days then with it

Nice swift, lil pocket rocket!!!! The colours pretty mad, i like, is it pearlresant?? think jap cars pull off the wild paintwork and vinyls ect, although that paint job probz wouldnt look right on a golf. the swift pulls it off. So is it pretty costly to run 2 cars kells, ins, tax ect as i was looking at gettin a deisel daily and then something special for the weekend??

yeah would never style a dub like a jap car, the wild colours is what a true highly modified jap car is all about, the paint is chromaflair, it cost around 400 quid a litre and theirs 6 of them on the car, its like a see throught stuff when u see it in the tin, really mad, u have the paint the car black first then we used ICI laquer afterwards, its fantastic, glimmers throught different shades as you walk around it, very subtle
iv had the swift since i was 17, im 31 now!!, i learnt to drive in the swift and did my test in it too, its had 4 resprays, countless sets of rims and mods over the years and owes me alot of money but i dont think ill ever sell it, i have it on a special insurance policy with a agreed value of 6500k, dont cost too much, tax is very low even tho its as fast as totdays best hot hatches...i originally got the Golf as a daily to save the swift but the golf is slowley getting very tidy itself and soon ill need to think about getting something else to do my dj work in, think i am going to buy my GF another GTi golf too in the future...we'll see.... my problem is i cant leave cars alone!!!
-
I had Chromaflair paint on the roof of my Mini - it's MENTAL stuff and really draws a crowd. Didn't like having to pay the bill for it though...
-
^^^ too bloody right!!, i was told 2 litres would be enough for the whole car so thought what the hell....2 litres didnt even do the bloody body kit...i was like, "erm sh!t"
Also, Lazt, the satin black top looks wicked mate
-
just need to do the bolts and then done, tidy's up a 1.4 engine bay nicely, cause i aint going to pour money into an engine like that really, might make it more "nice" with some red silicone, we'll see how that looks. just do the vacuum lines me thinks...
LL ;)

Heres mine, long way to go with it. Tomorrow I'm fitting new clutch cable, expansion tank pipe, oil breather pipe, rocker cover gasket, new gearbox oil, rear brembo disks and pads!! With some help of course! lol

i am ashamed to say mine is fooking disgusting  i just dont know were to start ???
I have nowhere to clean it...yes i know that sounds lame , but i have to park about 1 mile from my house , in the middle of a car park... ( spain = worst country on earth for parking ) .......and i have no idea what to do ......i used to clean my old beemer engines with my dad , with the power wash while he kept the revs up haha ...i hear thats not a good idea...?
-
forgot to say , any tips much appreciated
-
Pressure washing a hot running engine with cold water has been known to crack the block, Never seen it personaly.
-
  oooook forget that idea then...
