Title: Jeremy Clarkson's Scirocco review
Post by: stealthwolf on 20 September 2008, 22:29
Always an avid reader of Jeremy Clarkson's reviews in the Sunday Times, I picked up this review of the Scirocco:

clicky (http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/driving/jeremy_clarkson/article4741256.ece)

And you’ll soon offset that because even though the two cars have a 2 litre direct-injection turbocharged engine, the Scirocco produces less carbon dioxide than the Golf. And is therefore in a lower tax band.

lower tax!? same engine? 179 g/km!? woot!

Quote
Well, the Scirocco is 97mm lower than the Golf, a point that becomes blindingly obvious every time you try to get inside.

fook

i had a look at the sirocco whilst having the ed 30 serviced , only had black and dull red and i didnt like either , would like to see one in white

....Haven't seen the red in the flesh but it looked as dull as dishwater in the pics I've seen. Metallic Firespark would be the best red imo.

JC's review doesn't sound very enthusiastic - Not like his review of the Mk5 GTI which directly caused me to arrange a test drive and the rest is history!

I think just about everyone here has already read my review on the Scirocco so you know my opinions : - http://biali.ritey.com/forum/index.php?topic=109.0 (http://biali.ritey.com/forum/index.php?topic=109.0)

Old shape Corrado with up-to-date cabin and the new 3-liter Audi TFSI.
The rest is just conversation

I always say that if a car doesn't look good in black, then its not really that good looking and I don't really think the Scirocco looks outstanding in black! Shame!

Seems that the Scirocco is a very colour sensitive  :undecided:. Though I think we can all agree that the shots of the Metallic Firespark Red looked amazing

Showing my age now, but I can remember a young 20 something Clarkson writing about his white steering wheel in his Scirocco all those years ago when he was a young hack with a column in Performance Car magazine (I think that's the right mag- it was a long time ago). I had a mk1 Scirocco as my first car!!!
I'd love a mk3 (New) Scirocco too but have family to consider these days, need 4/5 doors.
Oh, and the Storm came in blue too.

Things is, when it looks like that I would have one in a heart beat, but until wheels like that and subtle body kits like that are available, ill be staying well clear! When they decide to pull their finger out and give customisation options on the body/wheels/interor its a no go!

I don't quite understand but if you are saying its the same engine as the current GTI it isn't. Open the bonnet and compare it uses the newer engine like some of the americans are now getting in the gti.

....A friend of mine has a Monaro - The Scirocco won't sound anything like a Monaro!! It won't go anything like a Monaro either!! Another has a supercharged Monaro .

That pic of the black 'Rocco shows how much better they look when modified.

Are you sure that's for the new one TC as the note 21 says - "Golf/Scirocco pre-Aug '79 - use spring cup No. 171412341A."

PS - I'm liking the new signature pic, very

HhmmM i read about the new springs on another website which mentioned having to types one for the basic and one for the 2.0 which gets the new style 3 settings thingymajig.
Over £400 quid for a set of springs on a car from the 70's sounds a lot.  :undecided:

Your probably right, this article confirms H&R are doing the kit for both the normal and DCC suspension equipped cars - http://www.tuningnews.net/article/080828/h-r-volkswagen-scirocco/

They look similar to the Eos Chicago wheels but these are way bigger with a deeper centre. This is definatly the best picture of the rocco I have seen so far.

....The new Scirocco looks like it might be a bit of a Marmite car! Without some serious mods, it's not delivering what VeeDub enthusiasts were hoping for - Surely any coupe needs to have some excitement.

It has got a luck of a Ford puma but thats not a bad thing imo. It wont be long before someone does a IROC front end as well  I hate marmite but i love that scirocco in the above pic.

Can anyone confirm what body kit this has got? I'm debating going for the rocco over the MK6 GTi.
