Title: Problems getting the Polo to start...
Post by: bobbarley on 20 September 2008, 16:02
Nipped out a bit ago to move the Polo to a better place on the road, behind my car.

Turned the key, something was turning over, but the engine wouldn't start.  About 15 seconds of this, pumping the accelerator, and it finally started up.  So I thought I'd try again, and the same thing, it would turn over, but not start up for ages!!

After that the time it took got slower,, and eventually it would start first time.

Anyone know what might cause that?  We went out in the Polo yesterday and it started every time perfectly.

I don't know all that much about engine bits, but the car has no service history to it, so changes are the HT leads and plugs are all old.

also i would think about changing the air filter if you dont know when it was last changed as it is more than likely full of sh!t, but the ht leads are the most common thing to cause poor starting

go down Hlafords or somewhere like www.gsfcarparts.com

GSF want about £25 for a set of leads and £1.50 for each plug

That's what I thought as well, 4.  It started first time every time today, no problems!  Might get new plugs for it anyway, as I'm sure the ones in there probably haven't ever been replaced.
