(Cheers for the Linky shaun and Sean T_T)
Job already done, didnt have to get that extreme with mine, i just put some double sided sticky Foam pads x4 to the edges of where the black plastic cover sits on the edges of the housing to Cushion the plastic housing from creaking like it does.Road tested on lumpy roads where it normally creaks like a biatch, and shes quiet as a kitten now

....Very useful guide for those that care. Too much hassle for me - My rattles come and go and seem to be far less in the last 20k miles or so. Either that or my mind automatically shuts off to them.

3 screws too much trouble

1 screw for me!!!

I haven't noticed any dash rattle. How long after driving did you guys discover yours?
-
all 3 GTi's have done this , going over rough surfaces it used to creak with the bumps. Although all my GTi's have been 2nd hand, my 2nd one only had 900 miles on it, and that did aswell!. I think its not all Golfs stealth, you may be lucky

....Looking at everything you have to take apart to get to those screws, yes. And I would probably drop one of the screws in an inaccessible place! Also, that area in my car is stuffed with things I don't want to disturb, which may be why it seems to have stopped rattling.
3 screws is too much trouble if I'm obliged to go shopping afterwards!

i followed this instruction to fix mine, it rattled like a b1tch! took about 10 mins and 2 small bits of cork = no rattle. Every MK5 i have ever driven (about 10) have all rattled from the same place, but mine has been the worse by far. still easily fixed, but now i have rattle in the bloody door driving me up the pole  and you can be certain that wont be an easy fix.

handy guide that just helped me relocate my ipod lead whilst trying to get rid of the annoying squeak.
