Hi all, over the past few weeks I've noticed a tapping/knocking sound that appears to be coming from over by the passenger air vent. It only ever lasts a few seconds a generally happens when I've got the fan on low and quite often when the car is stationery.
I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this or if anyone knows what it is?

Yeah I have that noise too - had it since new. Don't know what it is though, has never caused a problem for the car either...
Would be interested to find out what it is!

i get this very occasionally but just assumed it was something to do with the aircon "warming up" but i'd be interested to see if someone knows what it actually is

Its a very common thing with the VAG dual zone climate. On rare occasions it maens the pump or something is failing, but most of the time its a completely normal characteristic. It does it ALOT with mine.
-
Mine too, dealer advised it was normal
-
Ha ha, normal?!
Yet again, VW build quality disappoints!
-
i have it aswell
-
My S3 used to do it, nothing to worry about.
She is just saying good morning to you!!
-
A job lot of loose screws?!
Seriously, is it roughly about three knocks - more "plastic" rather than "metalic" sounding? I get that too!

I think it is something to do with the air-con redirecting air through the different vents when the climate control is on auto
-
pollen filter or Air con presurising???

I tent to agree with that. Probably the little servo motors adjusting all the relevant flaps and whatnots.

Shouldn't be either. The pollen filter is quite a snug fit, though the retaining cover could be loose, but then that is more down in the footwells on the passenger side. And the air con should be permanently pressurised, shouldn't it? :undecided:
