Title: What mod next?
Post by: Volkswagavin on 13 May 2004, 11:01
???I've fitted a K&N replacement element and a stainless steel exhaust system but I'm not sure what to do next.

My options are (as I see):
Induction kit (?60) + ROHR pipe (?30)
Superchip (?300)
Fast road cam w/ smooth idle (?300)

?300 is not easy to come by so I need to pick wisely and do things in the right order.  I'd guess I'd need to get the induction kit and the cam first so that the chip can be programmed to make the best of the engine in its modified form??

Grateful for advice - I'm after more performance without sacrificing driveability and too much fuel economy! ???

those rohr pipes are a waste of money by the way

(unless you have a fetish for shiny things) ;D

If you have an Digi GTI check eBay for a performance chip as you really don;t have to spend ?300 !!!

I got a *cough* copied chip for ?50 :)

Here's a few examples ....

Superchips do really charge through the nose, and all your doing is is changing a few variables.

Thanks folks!
How does one fit said cheap chip from ebay?  Is it easy to restore the old setting should the chip make things worse?
It is a Digi - on a PB engine.

That's exactly the same engine as mine - you'll have to dismantle the ECU and 'unplug' the old chip then 'plug in' the new chip.

The chips are  read only, so if you want to install the old one again then it's just the reverse of the above.

Any chip for this engine will simply 'plug in', it really is that simple ... just taek your time and don't break anything on the way in or out of the ECU!!!
