Title: how many amps through the battery cable
Post by: Dolly on 17 September 2008, 21:41
does anyone know what my main battery cable from alternator, to starter, to battery should be rated at? ive had to turn the battery through 90 degrees on my G60 to avoid the boost pipe and need to get a longer cable from the starter to the battery, around 200-300 longer.

ive got one for 110 amps but it seems too small.

starter is rated at 1.2 kw iirc   cable you have is probaly 16mm2 whitch will be fine,   starter cables are generaly quite small for the current they carry as they ain't very long and they don't do it for very long.  alternator's are normaly 60 A or 90 A,    just ensure  you get good connections as that where  most ppl cause themselves problems
