Title: Vac leaks.
Post by: Rodriguez on 16 September 2008, 20:40
Has anyone here got a foolproof method for checking for vac leaks.  I'm pretty sure that my popping overrun and slight 'cough' on hard acceleration is down to this.  I had similar niggles with my vr6, but in both cases the pipes all look ok, new even.  Would a lack of back pressure at the exhaust cause this?

Also, while I'm at it... I'm in the market for a rainbow drivers seat (vgc) as my reconditioned one was done on the cheap I reckon.

Submerge the pipe in water and blow down it with your finger over the other end.  Look for bubbles!

I've read somewhere about using a butuane torch (not lit obviously!) and blow butane over all pipes, listen for the engine revs torise and oyu find oyur leak, a lot cleaner than using WD40 etc..

Just not sure how safe this might be?!??!

WD40 - spray over vac pipes with engine running, revs rise when leak found, but of course you have WD40 all over the engine bay!!!

Brake Cleaner or Carb Cleaner works the same as WD40 but then evaporates after. Be sure not to spray on electrical connectors or something hot like the exhaust manifold, just to be on the safe side. Works exactly how Rowlers described
