Title: expansion tank hose/pipe querie

Hi,

Can anyone tell me the name of the hose/pipe in the picture? It's a 8v 89, I've checked on the GSF website and it's unclear whether its an expansion take pipe or radiator hose. It's developed a leak over the last few days and needs replacing. Thanks in advance

Get a jubilee clip on that thing and see if it leaks :wink:


dont know the name of the pipe. I just call it a 'thingy pipe thing'

Just take it off, take it to Halfords, get a new bit, probably cost a fiver....

Actually that pipe looks a little short, its possibly leaked before and been trimmed, and could also possibly be leaking due to an engine mount on its way out, allowing the engine movement to pull on the pipe..

Anyone know the best place to get the braided hose from the top of the expansion tank from (radiator return hose?)

bought mine off the roll from a small car parts place in wantage, near oxford. tried to get it from halfrauds but they only had fuel hose which didnt work...

Hi Will,

GSF do not sell the pipe that goes from the bottom of the expansion tank to metal pipe.  For my 91 8v its dealer only and about £18  :shocked:

Thanks Simon,

That's a bit pricey for a pipe! Got my Jubilee clips to try the simple fix first, otherwise it's a trip to the Stealership wallet in hand.

not got any decent scrappies close by? problem with the 90spec one is its a bit longer than the pre-90.  find yasen a mk3 golf and pinch it off that, trim down to fit :)
