Title: Where'd it go?
Post by: stealthwolf on 16 September 2008, 17:14
Was just reading a thread about someone who'd taken pics of some MKVIs in Iceland and suddenly it disappeared!

The reason he deleted the photo's if i remember correctly is he posted them on Golf MKVI and a magazine used them and i think they made out they had took them.
I posted them in VW chat the night before all the hullaballu. But that seems a bit far to go for a few of us so here is your pic request.

Maan, those new MK6s look so strange. That front made me think of a lizard and of a vacuum cleaner, for some reason. I don't know what MK6 GTI will look like, but the front of my white MK5 GTI E30 looks much more expressive. THe inside quality is much better, I hear, and that is mega important, but I would not buy a MK6 if I were choosing the car now. It just does not look good outside.

R36... who's gonna buy that one?

Is it me or does the front end look a lot like the Scirrocco?

The only thing I like about the car is the funky spokes on the steering wheel - love that chrome-trimmed notch in the bottom spoke, and the chunky buttons on the side ones.

....Very like the 'Rocco's nose!

I'm afraid I hate any chrome on cars unless it's from a bygone age. ETTO :afro:

Hi

I deleted it, as I was concerned I was sounding stupid as to how to upload the photos, still can't figure it out. Its the same car that's in the Evo video.

Any help as to how to upload photos would be appreciated.

There is a sticky on the site some were, but basically open a photobucket account or something similar upload them on to your new photo bucket account and then copy and paste on to the thread and bingo.

....Excellent pics, Bobnaldo - Worth waiting for!

Why is it that the new Golf pics don't look real? It's all the pics, not these in particular I'm talking about.
Title: Re: Where'd it go?

I just went there for the weekend with the wife, its a great if a little expensive (£6 a pint) place to go. We were just walking past the harbour and I saw all the golfs in a car park, so I thought I'd have a look and take some photos. I was expecting to get told off but there was no around.

I wasn't a massive fan of the Mk VI, much prefer my Mk V GTI, but fingers crossed the Mk VI GTI will be good.

Now I've figured out how to take photos, I just need to figure out how to talk the wife into getting the GTI Revo'd.

....About the Mk5.5 - The car and not the pics - I want to like it but I really don't like that front. It's as if someone stuck their fingers in the sides of their mouth and pulled it wide!

I really hate the fact that VW have apparently made it even quieter inside - I want to hear the engine of whatever vehicle I drive!

That must have been exciting stumbling across a new golf.
As for the mrs that is way more difficult than loading piccies your on your own there son good luck.

It was pretty difficult getting her to let me take photos of the golfs, apparently we should have been spending our time looking at waterfalls & whales, not taking photos of golfs.

I might go the same way with getting my GTI Revo'd as I went with the R32 rear lights and just hope she doesn't notice the change in the car and the drop in the bank balance.

...."It must be the petrol, darling - VW advised to run it on higher octane  - Look, it's written inside the filler cap"

Either that or "The GTI is a fast car - It's just that we are getting used to driving it faster"

Wow im a little underwhelmed by the mkvi's appearance. I completely agree with Robin about the appearance of the front, summed up what i was thinking perfectly. I think probably the most unimpressive area for me though is side-on. Now that you get to see it with the standard small wheels it really is bland to me. Very good shots though Bobnaldo - right place, right time!

Hmmmmmmmmmm.....................

Not an immediate fan nof the new Mk VI. It has the same typical understated body evolution but there are too many similarities with other VAG models for me - needs to be more individual. Audi rear lights, Audi A4/Cab/Scirocco interior, including the chrome bits on the MFSW. Agree with RR - I'm not a chrome fan, I'm not that old yet

Will need to see one in the flesh - GTI that is (not RR's birds ), so I'll reserve judgement. I'm keeping my MkV anyway so WTH.

....Final judgement has to depend on seeing one in the flesh and driving it.

However, personally I don't like the front styling because it's too like the Scirocco and I hate all the overall 'corporate' look which destroys individuality. I also think that the new facelift front will date very quickly and already looks like several other 'Euro cars'. But the bottom line is that I have very little interest in any Golf other than the GTI (and R32 which now no longer will exist), and so the jury is still out.

The new Golf has all sorts of improvements but inevitably some I intensely dislike such as Automatic Distance Control, pointless suspension settings, and even more cabin soundproofing.

I agree.  And I think like Toph and Gulf said, it will probably grow on us, especially when we start to see 'em on the roads.

Are you sure?  I personally think that "timeless" styling is where the Golf, and German marques in general, really do have that licked.  You can look at all five generations of Golf, and see clear "Golf DNA" through the evolutions, and they all look good.  However, look at Seats, and even the previous gen Leon looks as ugly as sin, and when you put the two (previous and current Leon) side by side, you really struggle to find any common traits.

When Audi bought out their trapezoidal "single frame grill", most "commentators" reckoned that was fugly, but now it is an accepted part of Audis' corporate family design, and it works well, and looks good on all their models.

But the worst cars for dating are rice burning jap cars.  Look at the Honda Civic, from the original to the current.  The early ones are horrendous, and even the second from current is uglier than an ugly ba$tard at the gurning world championships!

Fussy bu&&er!  :tongue:  :grin:

Ahhh - but things like the ADC will have to have an on-off switch, just like todays cruise control.  Afterall, isn't cruise control illegal to use in Switzerland?  :undecided:  And as for suspension and cabin noise, well I doub't they'd fox you for long.   A Milltek and a set of KoniFSDs will soon sort that!

....^ You sound in much better spirits this morning, T_T - I'm hoping your lobster had finally been digested without further discomfort

I agree about the Golf DNA running through the Mk's, like it, and it's probably clever from a marketing point of view and certainly reinforces the Golf brand long term. But, as you say, I'm a fussy beggar and also a strong 'individualist', hence all my cosmetic mods.

Very interesting to learn that Cruise Control may be illegal in Switzerland. I know that many people find it very useful but I never ever use mine because I like to feel everything that's going on and don't like such a degree of automation. I wonder what the Swiss reasoning is and how on earth they police and prove it's use.

I'm 99% certain that it is Switzerland where it is illegal.  Maybe Pesky will be along soon to confirm.  I'm pretty sure I read it in my "Europe" type of road atlas, and I think I remember seeing roadside signs as well.

I think the rationale behind it is to prevent you from nodding off at the wheel.  I suppose the cops could tell fairly easily if it was being used - they would just need to follow you for a reasonable distance, and if your speed remained bang on 110kph for some distance, then they could reasonably have their suspicions.  :undecided:

EDIT: oh, and I ain't posh enough to eat lobster!   Unfortunatly, it is my meds which aggravate my guts, and sometimes they are v.aweful!  :embarassed:
