Hi,

Has anyone ever noticed their mk3 trying to stall in the wet?

I've noticed sometimes when its raining, that coming up to a junction, drop the clutch - the revs will drop too low and the car will cut out with just the oil light coming on - it will always fire back up straight away though.

Don't think this is related to the other stalling topics is it????

Is there anythin under the hood that when wet will cause cut outs?

Any help / remedies really appreciated.

I know a lot of them with ignition coils suffer becuase the water makes it arc out and thefore no spark is sent to the plug.

If you have an ignition coild take it off and clean it, then spray it with some black heat resistant paint, then some kontact sl (from Wurth)
Its a laquer which will seal it and form a clear water resistant layer.

What jafo says is correct,  there is something that might make it a bit easier this is something we do as part of a service in the garage,  Get some silicone spray and spray the whole engine every conector and electrical part you can find! its great stuff.

When the bloke used to come and try to sell it to us in bulk, as a test he would get a tank of water and a live mains light bulb, he sprayed it with this spray and grabed it with his hand and dunked it in the tank, sure enough the bulb worked, he didnt die and nothing shorted out.  of course hes not alowed to do it now but.. the point is it really does a good job of keeping water out!!!

I'd be interested in the silicone spray too as mine does this when it's damp...

my car does this 2, but this only happens when Ive not derived it for a few days, and only does it when the engine is cold, but if mine stalls i cant get it started for half an hour, which means i have to give it full revs for a good few miles until the car heats up, any ideas?

could be a dirty isv or temp sensor?? clean the isv and if that don't work replace the temp sensor

Nah.

Mine was bloody throttlebody - did the old clean out and now is fine.
