Title: Speakers in cabrio
Post by: Whittle55 on 12 May 2004, 21:04
Hi,

I want to put some new speakers in my cab nut i am a bit worred that the roof will damage the speakers when folded down.

Has anyone put any in and are they okay,

I was thinking of 6x9s or something close to that,

Thanks

Andy

Yeah, apart from the fact that you can't hear them with the roof down - and when you bear in mind that my cab doesn't do rain, I VERY rarely get to hear them ::)

Hellooooo - Did some mention Cab ICE??

I have a set of 17cm Kenwoods in the rear shelf, and they do sound great with the roof up, but extremely muffled with it dropped. I did have a remote switch in the centre console to kill the Amp that supplied the power, for when the roof is down. But now I just leave them on, and it doesnt give any problems. It is worth upgrading the side pocket speakers in the rear to a qood quality set and running them from an amp. I have done this too, and this combined with the front ones driven from another amp, is quite adequate to enable the stereo to still be heard with the roof down, at motorway speeds.

What size are the speakers in the rear side panels and what do you suggest putting in there.

The front speakers in the doors seem very small also.

Not very good at building side pods althought to be honest not really tried so who nows.

Thanks
Andy.

I was wondering exactly the same thing Andy...

i was planning to upgrade speakers in front doors and run 6x9s off the HU amp (52 watts per channel)

Kenwood make a 6x4 which fits in to the rear cards. If you can get hold of a late model door pocket/speaker pod you can fit larger speakers in the front. I think I have about 5" speakers in there, but would have to check.
I would advise against running it off the HU as it all the power is supplied from the little power lead to the head unit! and this is not enough to drive speakers to an audible volume in a cab when the roof is down.
It is not hard to install an ICE set up in a cab. I completly rebuilt mine in a day over christmas, including a whole sytyem re-wire, 3 amps, and 10 speaker install. All the cards, seats and carpets are easily removed to allow access for wiring.
