Title: splitters
Post by: No Golf Clubs at all on 15 September 2008, 11:22
Hi just a quickie, I believe that the ed30 front splitter from VW is about £198. Does anyone know how much the standard GTI front splitter is? tried searching online, couldnt track it down, and dont want to struggle with the pimply no mark on a parts desk without a part number.

It depends on what, exactly, you are after!

The standard GTI has a separate lower lip - about 2/3rds of the total width, each end finishing below the centre of the two outer fog lamp grilles - part no 1K0 807 110 9B9 - pimply satin black, £29.22.  This actually looks fine when painted (painted properly though!).

The lower lip screws into the bottom part of the bumper - roughly the bottom two inches, and goes all the way round to the wheel arches - p/n 1K0 805 903 H 9B9, again pimply satin black, £30.57.  Again, looks fine painted.  This is actually a b!tch to remove from the remainder of the front bumper - you will end up snaping the locating tabs, but if you have a plastic weld gun, you should be OK.

The Ed30 is a one piece unit - the bottom section of the bumper includes the lower lip.  Part no 1K0 805 903 J GRU - grey primed, £198.00 - which is quite a lot of dosh, when painting the standard GTI bits looks nearly as good!

Thanks TT, excellent! so £59.97 for the standard or £198 for the Ed30....  never realised that there was so much difference :(

I have seen a couple of nice examples on here that either don't paint or leave black the middle 2/3rds section which finishes by the centre of the outer fog lamp grills.

They then paint the other part in the body colour, looks nice in red.  May opt for that look rather than the Ed30 one, however whilst I do prefer the overall look of the ed30 for the additional money may stick to oem GTI.

Just what I was looking for mate, thanks once again :D

I have been told by VW that the ed30 lower front splitter will not fit my 2006(MY) 55 GTI.

I think that they are talking out of their bottoms.  What do you reckon?

Yup.  They are talking shyte.  Go and make them look really silly,  and ask for the part number for the upper section of the standard GTI front bumper, and the same part on the Ed30.  They are identical!  :nerd:
