Title: where is your clutch?
Post by: ZIZZ on 14 September 2008, 10:50
hi....
i have problem with clutch,

i did a conversion from TDI to ABF and everything is ok, but one thing (i think)

i have to push the clutch ALL THE WAY DOWN because it's 'working' on the floor.. and when i release clutch, its working from the floor....
on the tdi, it was at about half... because of the hydraulic clutch... on abf it's hydraulic too?
how does your clutch work?

sorry bout bad english, i hope you know what i mean :)

The clutch may just have a lower biting point on the abf.

The biting point can be very low on a brand new clutch.

How did you bleed the clutch?  Did you do it under pressure?

Yes mate - get a pressure bleeding kit.  You attach one end of the bleeding kit to compressed air (a spare tyre or one of the tyres on the car - which you'll need to re-pump), attach the kit to the fluid resovoir and hey presto.

I changed my gearbox last week and bleed the clutch after.  Before the pedal was on the floor (didn't even bother to start the car), now it is better than ever.

Give it a try, the pressure bleeding kit is £16 from halfords.

I'd almost guarantee it will work mate.  Try your local motor factor, or car DIY store.  I'm not sure if halfords do a pressure bleeding kit (Also on e-bay, will ship worldwide http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Gunson-G4062-Eezibleed-Brake-And-Clutch-Bleeding-Kit_W0QQitemZ260287295148QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item260287295148&_trkparms=72%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14)

The link on that kit is the exact same kit I used.  Dead simple.  The kit comes to be connected as follows:

Tyre valve (same as on a bike pump)
Which connects to the plastic bottle (you can make that out on the pic of the box)
Put brake/clutch fluid in the bottle (AFTER you've tested pressure!)
Fit cap (supplied in kit) onto resovoir
Crack the bleed nipple to make sure it's loose
Fit bleed pipe
Open tyre valve to pressure system, let it equalize, open bleed nipple until bubbles are gone.

It's all in the instructions anyway, so I've just wasted my time writing
