after spending mega dollar on the golf recently, i am intent on tidying it up. i have a quick question regards rear seats... (and yes i did do a search)
currently the rear bench has water marks on the fabric. can i take the covers off and put them in my washing machine? if so how do i remove the covers? also what temp should they be washed at? i dont want them to shrink!
thanks

Might it be easier to hire a steam cleaner thingy, or buy some decent fabric cleaning foam (which lifts stains off the fabric)???
If you do go the washing machine route, see if your machine has got a "hand wash" setting, or failing that the wool setting. And don't risk going above 30 degrees.

oh ok... sounds like a bit of a chore removing the actual covers then...

Take the seats out, and hand wash them with a bowl full of hot water, and half a cup of persil, saturate and scrub the seats, and the blast the residue off with a power washer, stand them upright for a couple of days to drain and dry.. they will come out mint!

However...I decided to fully strip the front seats on my Mk1 Clipper resto. Easy to strip, but a total bi7ch to rebuild! But, I found that a 30 degree wash was fine with normal washing powder and a bit of vanish/brightener. Mrs wasn't too pleased when the machine made odd noises on the next wash!!!

Apparently dishwashers make good part cleaners too

i have just used the old vax carpet upright with attachment on the golf and corsa seats,
the CRAP that came out of them was unbelieveable
left the cosa running for 20 minutes with the heater on full, seats dry,
golf ones currently drying with the garage heater blowing into the car

VAX wash is brilliant for interior cloths

I would never advise removing covers to put in a washing machine, 20 year old stitching can get delicate, and you might end up with more than your bargained for

thanks for the replies, looks like the bench will be coming out and will be scrubbed
but first.... wash, t-cut, colour match, and high def wax

mmm....T-cut :undecided: Its nasty stuff....better off with something like autoglym super resin polish or autoglym paint restorer....your paint will thank you in the long run  (apologies if this post was not needed)
-
well good point however i have none of that available today, can only use what i have!
besides autoglym high def wax should seal it nicely...
-
you need a trip to mine chris - quick three stage whilist you wait for the seats to dry

NIGHTMARE.
i had t-cut and colour-matched the roof and bonnet last weekend, so all i needed to do today was t-cut the rest of the car, colour match the worst panels and high def wax the whole car.
been out there since half 4 and just finished, having t-cut the lot. drivers side is all waxed, applied wax to roof and bonnet BUT doing this at dusk means removing wax is nigh-on impossible!
so rear/passenger side/bonnet/roof will have to be finished at another time
i ache

I keep saying I'm going to t-cut and wax my car, but I never get round to it... Hopefully when I do the colour will come up lovely.

for 18 year old paint mine has come up great, although i need to finish waxing it otherwise the bare paint will fade again... :undecided:
really i need 2 new front wings because of dents etc, and the rear qtr panel has a small dent that wants filling and spraying.
hmmm.
i work next to a spray shop..... :smug:
this car is becoming a real money pit!
-
Have a search on the interweb for SMART dent repairers in your area - it will be MUCH cheaper than getting a new wing. I think they use suction gizmos to get the dent out very quickly/effectively.

oh cheer me up guys, i got an even older one to polish up now
still, seems in good nick, job for work one day this week
