I have used Optimax (apparently it is 100 octane in Europe but only 98 over here?) in mine and it seems to go better. I also use Tescos when I am counting the pennies. What does everyone else stick in their car of joy?
-
BP's Unleaded. Cant find optimax were i live
-
Optimax, I have to make a bit of a detour to get it. It's all I've used in mine since the rebuild, top stuff
-
Same goes for me - Optimax all the way!
Been using it for the last 6 months and nothing else - she's purring like a kitten and quicker than ever! I must say though if you have a 'digi' GTI VW actually state you should use RON 98 fuel, so anything less than Optimax and you'll be getting less out of your engine than VW intended.
-
optimax man!
best stuff for 8valve digis!
however my fuel consumption according to my mfa for town driving is crap! :(
it averages 19mpg. :(
what does everyone else get?
-
city/town driving i get 32mpg
-
thats a massive difference!
anyone got any ideas what could be happening to my digi?
-
MPG Reading is probably wrong - fill her to the brim and see how many miles you get - should be about 300 I reckons eh guys'n'gals.
The vacuum sensor that works out the mpg reading often goes tits up :(
-
cheers mate :D
how much to fill the tank?
-
according to my puter reading, i get 11-13 mpg ::) which is deffo not true lol.
I use optimax in the golf and the polo, better than anything else. Cheaper than ultimate too ;D
-
Speaking about prices how much is optimax around your way? Its 83.9 in King's Lynn (Norfolk)
-
slurping large quantities of optimax at a nasty 86p a litre :o
-
Optimax at Rayleigh, Essex 82.9
Ultimate at Wickford, Essex 85.9
So needless to say, I make the pilgramage to Rayleigh once a week 8)
-
what colour is this optimax pump by the way?
always wanted to try it but all i see is Unleaded, Super unleaded and 4 star ::)
-
LOL, its the one with Optimax on it! ;D
I use super plus & then optimax when i can get it ;)
-
^^^thats the thing ive never come accross the f**kker >:(
-
Do you go to Shell stations, cos they are the only ones that have it. There will be normal preimum unleaded & then normally an optimax one too. I'm sure someone will correct me if i'm wrong, but i think all shell stations sell it?
-
Yup all the ones I've stopped at do it! Look for green handled pump with red optimax logo.
-
you can go to the shell website and search for your nearest optimax stockist 8)
-
Morrisons finest :P
do you really find much difference with the optimax? i use it in my other car but when ive tried it in the golf noticed no difference exept it costing more ???
-
I notice a difference, even over super plus. Just seems to pull a bit better. could just be my imagination though! :-\
-
use to use SUL when i was in the Isle of Man, now im back in Belfast SUL is stupidly expensive, optimax isnt available so ive switched to using LRP
-
Optimax convert here too!
As stated before you can check availability through Shell's website and, no, i don't believe it is avail at all Shell stations

i found optimax is better when you have run a few tankfuls thru, i think the ultimate is poo but i just use normal unleaded from whatever petrol station iam driving past when i need to fill up. (i try not to use supermarkets tho)
-
I have always run on optimax, but on sunday none was to be found and I was on the red so BP Ultimate it had to be, a full tank, then another few runs down the strip times were better but I don't know if it was because of teh practicing or the fuel.
I am still going to use optimax for now
-
vw quantium silver, don't go any thiner
(it is castrol really)
-
::) ::) ::) ::) ::) ::)
drooooollllll,
limited as well?
nice no plate ;)
-
I dont care about my engine anymore as if it blows up ive got an excuse to change it. My dad flys light aircraft, so currnetly im running about 20% avgas in my unleaded. I reckon I could keep up with you boys now :)
