hi all not been here for a while but i know where to come if i need help :)
my mk3 has a problem but other than going to the local vw stealer no one close has the equipment for doing a diagnostic on my old girl
problem :
if your looking at the inlet manifold where the accelerator cable attaches (throttle valve) if you turn on the ignition, the servo there rocks back and forth as if it won't reset? the result of this is when you start the car without accelerator it stalls, in the morning you have to sit for 2 mins helping it to run with the peddle until it warms slightly
other problems that seem to have started at the same time as this is while driving, if you put your foot down it holds back until you lift your foot slightly then its like a power band it just kicks back like old times
any ideas on anyone that can look at it cheap ie diagnostic, i love this car and want to get it going well again
what do you think relay problem ? or worse
i live in hertfordshire (stevenage) will drive to see someone with the car no problem just need to get it sorted within a decent distance ofc
pm me or answer here
thanks in advance of any help people

Im in melton mowbray if its any good to you, I also have an 8v gti for spares so whatever is needed could be taken from that if yours is an 8v
-
Sounds like dirty throttle body symtoms, Try giving it a clean, costs nothing.
-
did that and had a slight difference to the tickover revs but still stalled when cold and so i took it to my local garage who stuck it on thier diagnostics machine and it came up with a fault but because thier software was for newer models of golfs it wouldn't show what the exact fault was so i need a diagnostic machine that is compatible for the agg mk3 8v golf gti i think
-
did they give you the actual code for the fault? but i would say first clean the throttle body and then buy a temp sender...
the problem with diagnostic machines is unless they clear old codes they will allways show! I know a few places that will read them but not erase them! you could try ebay for a code reader/resetter for £30-40
-
ok ill give it another clean and buy the temp sender ill try anything atm
looked for reader/resetter on ebay and there are several types which would you suggest is the correct on for my year and model any chance you have a link
cheers
i have a laptop that i can take out to the car do you think that just the cable and software will suffice
-
this is the type you want...http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GOLF-FAULT-CODE-READER-SCAN-ENGINE-ABS-SRS-AUTOTRANS_W0QQitemZ160281651754QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item160281651754&_trkparms=72%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14 (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VW-GOLF-FAULT-CODE-READER-SCAN-ENGINE-ABS-SRS-AUTOTRANS_W0QQitemZ160281651754QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item160281651754&_trkparms=72%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C240%3A1318&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14)
I had one a few years back and it worked perfect (until i lent it to a friend who broke it!)

oh I've re read your post and you could get vag-com and a lead for you lap top.....try ross-tech.com for vag-com download and ebay for the cable (any obd2 vw cable will do)
-
the software is 127 quid :( know where i can get a free download lol
actually its free i think lol
-
Same on mine, Cleaned maf sensor vac pipes TBody and air intake system etc.(now a monthly job as i have found modded air box and filter klags up your intake system quicker!)
Much better then Changed, MK3 poop ecu and fuel pump relays and for morning stalling cleaned isv. Also new fuel filter, cleaned Lambda probe.
Car runs a dream and pulls all the way up to 6k
isv needs a clean this weekend as did not start first time earlier this week last time i cleaned it was May
-
vw bush is yours a 16v as i think 8v's don't have an isv
-
Sure does mate bolts to top of inlet manifold by T body had to solder wires in harness once when i pulled em out unclipping the harness!
-
Only bosch injectioncars have an isv... so thats 8v models upto 94 and all 16v models
post 94 8v cars used simos fuel injection which dont have an isv
-
:embarassed:My gaff Fuel pressure regulator, but thats what gets a soak in the morning after i keep soaking me liver tnt
KR had an isv for sure ive defo cleaned that one
-
thought mine didnt have an idle stablization valve - post 94 model :) but i didnt know that before i spent an hour looking for it when the problem stated months ago, but i know all about cleaning the isv as i used to have a mk2 oak green 16v .....ah the extreme acceleration days ....sigh.....
anyway ......
