Cos a remapped GTi will hold onto a .:R32.........IF its dry  :lipsrsealed:

Cos the GTI (in my opinion) is more unique looking.

And you are gonna get screwed on them taxes.

And the resale of .:R's is at an all time low. If your dad is doing a direct swap I say he is scamming you cos he will get better resale on your GTi than on his .:R  :nerd:

To quote EVO magazine.
VW Golf Mk5 :Character and ability: the original GTI is back *****
VW Golf R32 Mk5 :Tractions great and you'll love the soundtrack- We'd still have a GTI ****

***** <===That's supposed to be stars btw.

nice try Micsta!! Have you been to the UK this year... You would have been very lucky to find a whole dry day

Take it for a nice long drive then come back and tell us why you wouldnt want it

p.s. I have been averaging 29mpg since calming down a little, but by no means hanging around so consumption isnt as bad as you think either :smug:

It is sensationally simple to make a decision:

just get R32 and be done with it
or
just forget about R32 and be done with it

How's that for advice?

"..my body says go, but my mind says no. If you wanna be with me, baby there's a price to pay..."

I reckon the fact my local dealer has had an r32 sat on the fourcourt for months would put me off, it would need to be mega cheap for me to buy it, then I would still actually keep the ed30
Oh and racing/ speeding/ driving quickly in the wet is a little silly imo so that's no excuse to buy the r32 either
Only plus I can think is the noise
Title: Re: Someone give me some good reasons not to....
Post by: R32UK on 12 September 2008, 08:45
I was in the dealers monday and heard a guy negotiating on a new R32... £29500 was the figure I was hearing :lipsrsealed:

I think with the price of crude oil coming down nearly 50% over the last few weeks.. we will see that R32 prices will stabilize and those that sold will be feeling a little silly

Possibly... They were going through a list so might have been a stock list.

Depends what your circumstances are... for example I would've gone for a GTI if I did a lot of inner city driving. Resale of ALL cars is pathetic at the moment so that shouldn't be a major issue. Fuel-wise they aren't as bad as people think, 29/30mpg on the motorway is easy (although the DSG models don't seem to be quite as economical). Tax differences.. well as I've said before its the equivalent of about 8 quid a month.. boohoo.

Oh and the 3 companies in the states are very close to releasing their turbo kits, for around $7000USD which is slightly more appealing than the £20k+ quotes I had from HPA.

If you don't swap atleast nick his brakes

And yes R32 production has stopped, there won't be a V6 Golf again.. so there is a certain amount of exclusivity (not counting vw shows i've only seen 4 others on the road)

Then he must have more money than sence to be looking at a prebuilt R32 for £29.5K

TBH I certainly would not be paying that much.. but if your going for a fully spec'd one and go to a dealers then you almost deserve to be ripped off

For 15k , get an edition 30!!!, they are around for that figure!. Cheaper to run, has GTi thrills and some more to the mix. Looks better imo, i know Toph has said its only £8 a month tax increase, but remember you dont pay it every month, £440 a year is a much bigger hit then £260. Your visit the fuel station a day quicker then with a GTi, and its still does have some sort of exclusivity.

The only thing that has a huge plus over any GTi is the V6 soundtrack. Its underpowered and  tooo heavy.

But the R badge has always had the Racing pedigree with it, so if your want it , go get it!

its already like £1k under trade...

hmm i will drive it this evening and give my full review :) it'll be my first time in an R, drove an old v6 4motion which was fun and plenty of different cooper S's and the odd supercar

the thing where i live is, even driving the gti like miss daisy its so hard to get over like 23mpg because of the stop start driving, will the r32 be much worse?

one of the things that is putting me off is the fact there is a certain ethnically challenged person in this area with an 08 plate one and a seat so low it looks like a 2yr old is driving..

ps who's in bournemouth!

But still quicker than both the Gti and ED30

And probably even a remapped Ed30 300 days of the year in the UK.. but of course speed is only half the argument ED30 owners shout about. think about the V6 sound, blue tinted glass, xenon's, AWD stability in any weather, exclusivity, and or course the veyron stlye interior trim

I think it's in the best colour for an R32 (sorry R32UK/Manu  :embarassed:)

How many miles a year do you do anyway? If less than 10k and you want it go for it!

Simple answer IMO is no don't get an R32.

Don't rate any of the wheels at all, don't rate the chrome GT grill either. Plus tax will rape you as well as consumption.

Yup.

But you also need the front level sensor.  The control ECU.  All the wiring.  All the headlamp washer gubbins.  A new switch.  And it will all need recoding with vag-com.

K, that car is utterly awesome without a doubt, the noise it makes is actually complete filth!

it was the in-gear instant acceleration and the torque that i noticed the most...

But, just couldnt do it - it was an extra £300 to insure a year, £140 more to tax a year and im coming upto the end of my 40p per mile so its gonna be difficult enough to run the gti let alone something even more expensive!

dsg is as good as i remember from my old touran - launch control was good fun!

it had the 10speaker stereo with the 6cd in dash and the TIM button thing?
