Title: Protect those painted sills
Post by: mrlapou on 11 September 2008, 16:44
Cars right up next to garage wall when parked inside, making access from the drivers seat tight.
Always seem to be scuffing the painted portion of the door sill.
My solution was cheap, easy to apply and lightweight.
I used a 3M clear protective film product. It's like that used to apply to the car bonnet and wings.
Bought from a company of eBay.
Came in 150mm width and any length required.
Fitted it to all door sill areas.

Not easy to see in the pic..after all it's supposed to be invisible !

Easy to apply. Simply clean the area throughly, wet with a mix of water and a teeny bit washing up liquid. Apply film and squeege out air pockets. Now leave to dry. It's almost invisible when dry.

....My solution is some plumber's dense foam pipe lagging as fenders (like on a boat) on the garage wall in the area of my car door.

Ooops! slightly different! Sorry - I don't seem to scuff my sills.

Great idea.... A whole year of ownership with three kids (Incl me) hopping in and out the car and it only took VW a day to scuff every door sill  :lipsrsealed:

If they cheap I would use them just for when the car is serviced.

....How easy was it to apply? Did you use washing-up liquid?

Dead easy to apply. Go to the supplier's website, there's info and a video on 'How to'.

I have some scuff guards on the black bit just above the painted sill. I hate when people get mud and stuff on that bit, so I got a set on ebay. They are shiney and say Golf on them . Look nifty too.
