Title: shuddering!

went out today for a drive and the car feels real shuddery when you change gear then eccelarate but goes away again as the revs rise, seems worse inbetween 3000-4000, only happens from 2nd gear up though 1st gear is fine.

anyone have an idea what could be causing this, cars a '97 16v gti
