Dudes, found a white on white c plate cabby gti, needs a roof and seats and has some small scabs and has been off the road for a few years. Any ideas as to what I offer?
-
roof, depending where you go, wot you buy, if you fit it 250-500
seat - again depends on what you go for..can pick up a decentish set on egay...bout 50-150
scabs, sure its just surface rust? where abouts on the car?
cheap as possible so then you can spend money on making it lurvely..
Look at the guides in the maintanance section...
cabs esp - check where the ariel usually is - front wing, the window surround in roof, fuel filler neck (if possible)
bout all i can think of atm...
good service is a good place to start...need to talk to you about that and stuff and parts...

Gonna go see the bloke and offer him £300 at the end of the month. If he says no I will walk away I reckon, I need to get it cheap or I wont be able to get the beetle!
-
on ebay u can get a new roof for about £160 for the normal pvc one u fit urself or u can get a mohair one for about £200
-
yeah be very carefull buyin old cabbs, any damaged trim will cost you and is hard to source. for example outer door seals are around 90 each from the us, the plastic trims either side of the screen down a pillar are very rare and can go for upwards of £30 each
roof isnt an average DIY job either, it takes time, patience and fettling to get it right, plus it aint the time o year for it. If its a later cab and the filler neck has rotted they're over £100 from GSF and not the same as a regular tintop one either.
have a very good look underneath, particularly the inner arches and the inner sills, specially around where the rear beam bolts up. mine had nasty holes here I failed to spot which resulted in a 'cheap easy quick' project turning into a 3 year expensive nightmare!
