No not really the thermostats a whole other job in its self so i wouldnt worry about that if its working. its common for the bottom right of the rad to busts on these so just change that radiator its self. you usualy have to swap over the fan switch, could fit a new one of those to be safe? other than that its just the radiator you need.

Rmachines has summed it up really, other than a good mix of coolant. Just the rad, switch, and maybe a few hoses to be safe
A nice Sunday afternoon job

Wouldn't have thought so. It just unbolts and lifts straight up and out doesn't it? Should take no more than an hour tops.
Drain system [slacken bottom hose]
unbolt rad and hoses
clean up the area [optional ]
replace rad with new sensor switch
hoses on
refill with coolant
Run the engine with heater turned to HOT [so that water runs around the heater matrix]
check for airlocks
DONE
*chances are jubilee clips will be seized, bolts will be rusty, and you will slip with a spanner and slash a knuckle or three - so maybe 3 hours

you do have to remove the bumper on the MK3. The cross memeber can just be slackened but it comes off easily enough so doesnt matter really. bumper is just a series of 10mm bolts and then pop off the plastic retainer to connect it to the wheel arch plastic.
