my engine fan seems to be stuck on , comes on as soon as you turn ignition on , even from cold , allways worked as it should until now , any ideas any one ? thermostat or suttin??
-
mine has started doin this, because my engines overheating and throwing water out of the exp tank onto the electrical box under the exp tank which controls the fan.
or so i,m told so it might be wrong.

Time for a headgasket? New rad? midz16v

everything looks as it should under bonnet its not over heating engine and oil temp as it should be , i think its an electrical fault , weres the stat on a 16v and are they hard / expensive to change?

Would think it's the stat if the car is runnnig at normal temperature. More likely to be either the sensor switch or relay issue. My money is on the sensor switch, i.e. the car thinks its overheating so turning the fan on.

were is this located ? going to scrappy later , could pick one up and try it?

Dunno to be totally honest  I'm new to Mk3 Dubs but I guess it should looklike a 13mm nut with wire coming out of it, and I'm guessing it should be located on the rad somewhere, near the bottom or maybe near a hose?

Might help?? :undecided:

would it be engine coolent sensor ?
-
coolant sensor I guess would do the temp guage and fueling trim whether it does the fan too I'm not sure. Maybe a cheeky call to a dealer or someone like German Swedish & French car parts, they are usually a good crowd

The fan switch is in the back of the radiator

right iv found the fan control switch, as mentioned it's on the rear left of rad, disconnected it and the fans still on ! there's a load of relay's and fuses in the fan circuit as well on the suspension turret under the water bottle , could it be one of these? last resort is the stat , that looks a nightmare to change as i have air con witch sits directly on top of it by the looks of it ?
any words of wisdom gentlemen?
