Title: RedRobin's car damaged....
Post by: RedRobin on 08 September 2008, 19:26

Like stealthwolf, I had an incident myself today. Stopped at Waitrose to get some food for tonight on the way home and thought I'd save myself 50p for just a 15 minute stop by using their free undershop indoor carpark - I've never done that before. To lessen the chances, I found a corner spot - 50% less chance I thought.

All went well until exiting onto the road afterwards when a kid, with his mother trailing behind but not being attentive, rushed in front of me. I instinctively pulled hard to the left to avoid and.......... crrrunch!! My front splitter hit the kerb. I was only doing about 5 mph and even had had eye contact with the mother - And no! She wasn't a fit hottie or even a milf!

I should have been angry with the mother but couldn't be arsed - Am sure by her general attitude I'd be wasting my time. A blast of my air horns woke them up though!

I've already had a word with my VW dealer's affiliated workshop whose boss I know and like, and he's said he'll fit it in tomorrow morning. Waitrose carpark, he said, yes it's a well-known blackspot.

Could have been a lot worse!

doh, Iv also got some damage to my windscreen (post in stealthwolfs thread). Looks like we are all having a run of bad luck at the moment. You are right tho, could have been much worse.

Good to hear your getting it sorted tho.

Sorry to hear that Red. Could have been a lot worse though - for both the child and your car

Things sound like they should get sorted relatively quickly though, which is good news!

Im just looking forward to when he calls me back and I tell him how much it costs

What is going on!! Ok so mine isnt as bad as you two, but yesterday some fool came the wrong way down a one way, i was about 10 metres from the blind junction he pulled in from and my only way of avoiding a head on was to go up onto a rather large curb. First scratch to my alloys. pretty annoyed and waited til the last minute to pull over but he was goin about 40 wen he pulled in and was completely oblivious. it wont suprise you to know he was driving a bmw. Anyway not too bad in terms of cost just annoying. Hope you get it sorted soon Robin

But as you said it could have been a lot worse.

Dude, sounds so harsh. Hope it gets fixed okay.

Women with children are a nasty combo.

My dad was driving down the main road, not even 50 yrds from the house. Some toddler decided to run out. He hit the brakes as hard as he could but still managed to hit the child (was almost at a stop too). No bruises or anything but the mother blamed the kid and apologised. Yet had she had the kids under proper control, nothing would have happened. As it was, the kid was fine.

Worse still are women with pushchairs, especially the ones who put the pram/pushchair into the road before looking to cross. Sometimes they don't look and expect traffic to stop for them.

She wasn't a fit hottie or even a milf!

 She is "m" in "milf" by definition. I guess she was "milfk"
I am bugged by women drivers recently, they just cannot behave on the road.

....I don't think it's solely women drivers - The other day I saw a guy swing open his car door into the side of the car parked alongside (supermarket carpark again) without batting an eyelid. Even with me walking by and glaring at him, he just didn't get the message. If I'd stopped and said something the chances are that I could get nasty so I tend to walk away. My words can be extremely vitriolic.

I love that TV advert where a guy finds a totally deserted and empty part of a supermarket carpark to safely leave his car....He walks away smugly and then suddenly a large jet engine falls from the sky and totals his car!

....Incident happens at about 4:00pm > Workshop informed at about 5:00pm > Invited to turn up at workshop as soon as I like the next day (tomorrow) > Ready later in the day or at worst the following morning subject to paint finish = Couldn't possibly be quicker! This is why I'm forever boring people by singing the praises of my VW dealer and its affiliated companies.

I've no idea what the cost will be but Mark has done lots on my car previously and he's always been totally reasonable and either the same or cheaper when I have bothered to get a comparison cost.

A Big Thanx for everyone's posted well wishes - It's much appreciated and shows what a good community we are :afro:  :afro:

the guys can be Arschloch (as we say in German) too.
In the past week I had 2 of them arselochs getting my blood pressure up.

I was standing on tram lines waiting to get into a shop's parking, it was packed with cars, and there was a tram comming, and then this guy in a white BMW, who saw the situation I was in, just drove in front of me. I tell you, I was prepared to get out and execute some punishment on his "arsch".
The other guy in a cross over did not let me drive onto the highway, I almost had to stop and risk an accident.

Recently I've been thinking of buying a bat to have it in my car, I cannot stand the inconsiderate barstewards recently.  :lipsrsealed:

Yesterday a crazy lady (about 45ish) in an R32 saw me in her rear view mirror and decided to show off (can you imagine). So she revved her R from red light to red light. Finally we stand at a red light, three lanes, she is in far left, I am in far right, there is a car in the middle, and just after the red light there is construction work and the other two lanes converge into mine. WHat happens? It goes green, she steps on it and cuts off the other guy and me, and gets into my lane, I am totally amazed by her stupidity, I give her a bip, she stops dead on the road.... I have no words... :lipsrsealed:

Not good to hear about the damage. I can imagine how you feel... My mom drove our GTI up a 8 inch concrete pavement only a month or two into ownership... Wrote off two Monza 18's and a side skirt. I found one of the screwed up rims in the attic the other day

My dad also had the SUV stoned with bricks a year or so ago destroying most of the right side of his car and had my brothers been in the car (He was moving at about 90km per hour) my brothers would probably be extremely badly hurt or worse.

So be happy it was not so bad and at least you missed the kiddy.... Unlike me. I say screw the car here I come like I did last year when I crashed into a 2 week old Audi A4 on my birthday on a bicycle.... 4000 pounds damage

Keep us updated.

Its a long story but when my old car went in for repair.. the garage in question refused to give me a car because they said they simply didnt have any that were taxed. So after wondering around their lot for 20min and finding nothing I returned to the showroom where they had this BRIGHT PINK thing on a ramp in the showroom like it was something special! I noticed the tax disk and told them I wanted it... thinking that they would "suddenly" find something with tax... well they didnt and they got the car down for me. So I had to drive this BRIGHT PINK micra around for 3days.

I didnt race anything as such, which is a good job because I would have lost... but did take out alot of frustration on it!! Im quite sure when I gave it back it needed 2 new fronts but only had 3500miles on the clock. i even handbraked it into their car park to make a point

....0-62 feels more like 5.7 minutes! Are you sure it's not a misprint!? The Fiat Panda I once had, used to feel faster.

Well, it was either a free Yaris or wait forever to catch a bus. At least I now have the dubious experience of having driven one. I wouldn't want to try to overtake anything in it though

....  Absolutely perfect description and also describes what it feels like to drive!

Btw, when the steering wheel is straight (which is most of the time usually), the horizontal 'spokes' completely hide the graphics showing all the controls on the stalks!

I hate the strip rev counter (why would you need one in such a car anyway!?) but love the large digital numeric speed display.

final guess, Smart crossblade: -

Amazing car that one there.... Been in one and they are evil.

Funnily enough this car is a huge seller and even comes in a 1.8  litre. :lipsrsealed:
We also get the Yaris "RF" which is a Yaris that was specially run. There were only a hundred or so and its all about sound. Sound in the form of an uprated sound system from the factory and a different bodykit. Lets put it this way. The sound system in that yaris puts most cars to shame....  :embarassed:

When you getting the car sorted out robin?

TC....

I have been writing final exams so posting on the forum has been disruptive lately.

I have been looking at alternatives...  :lipsrsealed:
But I will make a post in Chat nonsense. To be honest I cant even get a crappy yaris like Red's one for the price I can get a 2004 model full spec Smart car... And the car is very positive....

....Don't worry, mate - Thanks for apologising

Well I've now gone and damaged the jelly mould! Reversing out of my garage this morning to go on the school run....Crak!! Ripp! Crunch!!....I can't understand what's happened and then see that my up-n-over door has ripped off the roof aerial! Feck!!

So I phone Mark and he says: "Don't worry, mate - Not a problem" and tells me he took the opportunity to repair my roof spoiler (also done ages ago on my fecking garage door!) and my car may be ready early and he'll take it across the road to my VW dealer for the new tyres.

When you touch the brakes on the Jelly Mould at normal speeds it's absolutely fine (as long as one doesn't compare it to the GTI), but at slow speed in a traffic queue it's horrendously sharp and nearly tips you through the windscreen. Overtaking a lorry on a hill on the two-lane bypass took forever and I'm glad I had the road sense to let a few faster cars overtake the truck before I took on the task.

As Mark said, it's not exactly a car you long to go for a drive in! And it's not a car I feel safe in. I'm missing my GTI sooooooooooooooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I gotta laugh though

Maybe a new batcave is in order RR??

It hilarious as my mom has over half a metre on either side of the car when she pulls out the garage and goes so slow. Brake, accelerate and turn?? My dad starts the car shoves it into reverse and floors it.

You gotta love woman...

At least the Yaris is cheaper to repair.

Anyhow, that linky isn't really 'projectile vomiting'.  For true PV, you need to be able to get it aiming above the top of your head - and that takes some doing!  :embarassed:
