1.6 Gofl GLi Cab - 1980, 77'000 miles, mint condition, most things standard plus leather interior!
Can anyone tell me the performace loss because its not a GTi cab...?

im pretty sure that the gli has the same engine its just a name change - well thats what the insurance company told me. i think they changed to gti in '81.
its really rare to find such an old one with so little mileage and mint - im glad to see u picked an early one - what colour is it?

well it has a completely different dash and wheel to mine - so maybe spec was different too. i asked the gli/gti question a little while back myself so ill have a look for thr thread ;)

Dash will be different, even if it was a GTI - Dash and rear lights (on the tin-top) changed around 1981/82

modulater who made the last post on that thread used to work for vw and really knows his stuff. seems the engine is the same but as we can see from ur pic the trim had a change when they became gti's :)

Nice cab Rich, like it a lot, looks really tidy. Your seats look like the same as in my Rivage only mine are a lot more worn ! You've got same steering wheel as well and mines on a 91 plate. :D

Is that a clipper kit it is wearing? Is it standard for the year? Looks very nice, and even has the really old retro dash with the round dials. Very cool.
Hope to see it next month at action then.

mint condition car- only a few rust bubbles that need seeing to. Getting it for a bargain price of ?1700 aswell. Interior is standard leather, again unmarked. Very very pleased.
Have to decide on a name!

That is a nice car, i used to have a mk1 tintop with a cab interior and those clocks, let the car go cheap years ago as it wasn't a GTI but kinda miss that dash (apart from the gold colour that I wanted to change). Also let it go with wolfsburg 3 spoke wheel. twit! didn't know its value back then.

just read the thread on gti/gli vixteris siad hers said gti on log book. i am so confused with mine as it states "golf cc convertible convertible" i know it is supposed to have a 1.8i engine in it as the spec stamp on the slam panel is DX.. for the engine. it also has strange cc letters all over the seats. what do i insure it as. at the moment it is insured as cc convertible as that is on the log book.

the roof is dark blue mohair/cloth (not shure the difference) but this may not be original. the roof bag is dark blue but must be original as it has the same strange cc lettering on it. the interior is dark blue with the same strange letters on it and the roof lining is white/grey with same strange letters in it. stickers on the back are cc and another with wb? both in the same style. i would really love to know what it exactly is if nothing else for the insurance.
also is ther any way of getting seat cloth exactly the same as it is now as it is a bit faded.
any idears will be greatefully received thanks.

its definatley a coco chanel, but its not the 'all white' edition. i think finding taht material would be almost impossible now, i did see a set of those cc seats on ebay the other week so they are about but ur gonna have to look out for cc's being broken.
im not sure of the engine spec im afraid. we could have a rce to find out ;) :D
if u put ur number plate into www.confused.com im pretty sure it will bring up exact details on ur car - it does mine :D

engine is 1.8 dx so same as gti but that is all i really knew about it.
so if it is coco da clown does that mean i cant call it a gti :( :( :(.

cool ride dude, just try and get a orig steering wheel as the late spec mk2 jobby just dont look right!!! you should have a 3 spoke rubber/alloy jobby to match your clocks!!!

tried to put pic in sig but i never worked :(.
its a work in progress. i am generally intending to keep it as original as poss with a few mods. power steering and central locking/power windows with total closure being the main ones. also would love to get p slot wheels but they either have centre caps missing or damaged or far more than a student can afford

ahem nope, my car is really a ragged old rat but always looks good in a pic ;)
take ur time over modding, thers no point rushing it cos ull end up completely skint and have to sell lol

the cat is mine but she is evil.
she waits at the end of our drive looking cute to pull in her next victim, then she attacks them.
she is probably weighing up wether she can win a fight with it!!!!
