Title: Rubbing

Hi all,

I dropped my car 40mm on a full jamex suspension kit and the drivers side rear wheel rubs of the arch something bad!

there is a very very small gap between the wheel and the arch, but on the passenger side there is about 1/2 inch?

its very strange.

Was told that i cant adjust the camber on the rear as its a solid rear axel ???


Anyone?

do you have standard wheels fitted of aftermarket ones?

1.the axel on the rear doesnt sit perfect on any mk3. dont know why this is but i have the same issue.

2.camber can be adjusted by using camber plates behind the stub axels.check out my thread in the maint section.

3.what size tyres are you running?

As said vw couldnt make the rear axle level!! and many cars suffer with "my wheel sticks out further in the arch on one side" issue.. some really really bad and have an extra 10mm at one side!! I guess your still on bulgy 205 tryes?? and the best option is to fit some good (falken have nice square sidewalls and these will help to stop rubbage) 195 tryes... I have done this with mine and mines down 70mm!! and it only ever so slightly catches... if you want to level the sides out youll need a spacer (only 3 or 5mm) on the one side!

Well thats another option....I looked into that and found out buying 2 new tryes was cheaper!! :wink:

as the old saying goes "if it aint rubbing it aint dubbing" !!!!!!!! :shocked: :shocked: :shocked: mine is dropped 40mm and is running 215/40zr16s and it dont rub ?

Yes im running standard wheels and 205 tyres.

Arch rolling is always a good option but ide rather not do it as i was told i might have to paint around the arches???


Im needing a new set of tyres soon anyways, and im up chaging my wheels to the BBS mesh type wheels off the VR6?


Also next year im buyin audi TT comps 17", will i manage to get them on no bother without rubbing?

Well you'll need 205/40 tryes for the audi rims and chances are they may rub (if it does on 15's!) and it would be worth getting the arches rolled then and most good rolling places can do them without damaging the paint....

cheers dude, will bare that in mind, not buying the TT comps until next year! No point putting new wheels on the road this close to winter!

pfftt if you are careful you can easily fold the arches on your rears, it took me about 2hrs to do both neatly but i knew i had the arch covers to go back on anyways

I know who to ask now... :wink: (mine only rub as the wheel sits in the arch with it being tooooooo low oh and my spacers!!)

I gave up with the plastic arches on mine a long time ago, mine was catching on the pass side more than than drivers side, I took a grinder to them, seam sealer and painted as required, I am running 17"s
