Title: Removing door cards on a mk3 GTi
Post by: lee_lee08 on 08 September 2008, 02:17
I need to try and have a go at fixing my door handle (exterior) drivers side!

Its becoming a pain to try and open lately, I have to use the total closure (key in the door turned to open position and held for 2 seconds) to make the windows open and then put my hand in and open the door!

I cant see any screws to undo to take the door card off, ive looked in the handle on the inside and can't see anything in there to unclip / unscrew! is there something im missing?

Hi mate, the door card just pops off.

Firstly you have to remove the door handle cover in the inside ( Where your window button is)

That pops off and im sure its 2 screws from there.

Yep did this the other day tryin to fix my window, just remove the handle which will include the lecy mirror control switch, then theres 2 screws to undo, unscrew the door pin, then just remove going round the door, just be careful not to break any clips, then its a matter of unpluggin you door speaker, window switch, mirror switch ect, and then remove the sound proofing from the door, (which i totally destroyed!! )
there we go job done

if your are replacing the door handle on the outside you do not need to take off the door card as their is just 1 screw holding the handle on open the door look above the door catch there is a screw in the door in line with the handle unscrew that take out handle refitting is a reversal of removal

Does anyone else have really creeky and rattly door cards????? thinkin of filling mine with expanding foam to stop it, when i say filling i mean spraying a bit here and there to hold it and reduce movement, in the rears this is (less wiring)

Cheers

no mine are fine

could try new clips, maybe someone had them off in the past and its made it all a bit loose

the late models have a cusion type inner cover, that could be missing ??
