Garage has squashed mine by jacking 6" back from the jacking points.
Sort of needed attention beforehand, just thought they'd last a bit longer.
Having a run of bad luck at the moment!
Anyway, anyone had them done & how much we looking at?
Cheers.

I squashed mine using the widow maker!! And on my last golf I had them straigtened and them a line of weld run along each side with plently of underseal added after words.... Only cost about £20 a side. this does depend on how good they still are!!
-
depends how close you are to people with a welder.
-
When i had mine done we removed the outer sill and it turned out that the inner sill had gone and part of the floor pan.. had it all fabricated welded on and sealed, total of 13 hours work at mates rates £200
-
Well it's defo only the front, floor I think is ok, but not sure about the inner cill.
I've only just started welding but no where near the standard it'd need.
Whilst I'm still riled here is the letter I'm sending to the garage who fubar'd things;
To whom it may concern,
Following an appointment on Wednesday 3rd September of this year, I’m writing to you to voice my dissatisfaction at the work carried out on my vehicle.
When I returned to your garage to collect my car, registration number *******, a MK3 Golf GTi, I noticed that the exhaust back box was sitting low, out of level & off to the side. Some of your staff attempted to correct this by slackening off the rear most fixing bracket & rotating the box. After some time it was improved but far from as it was when the car was delivered to you. Your staff stated that they couldn’t get it any better as it had now been welded in place. I agreed that this was for the time acceptable but advised that I would return the vehicle to you if it was not ‘right’ as I had yet to drive it.
Moving on, having now had the car back for a few days I’m disappointed at the increase in volume of the exhaust system. The general ‘noise’ has increased to an unbearable level; you described this as ‘throaty’ when I was present, however, this was not apparent when I left the car with you and I’m yet to determine whether this is down to the standard of fitting or the quality of the replacement parts that you have supplied, I will add that the exhaust now blows at both the mid-pipe to mid-box joint & at the CAT to mid-pipe joint. Further more, the rear pipe now pushes up on the underside of the car & the mid pipe now sits off to the side, pushing against the one of the hanging bracket, both of which I can assure you weren’t the case prior to the appointment at your garage.
The most infuriating issue I’m writing to you about is the damage done to the underside of my car during the time it was in your garage. Both front sills have collapsed where the car has been carelessly jacked up approximately 6†back from the re-enforced jacking points. This is entirely unacceptable. I will now have to face untold costs in getting this put right & feel it is only fair to pass these costs on to you.
In summary, you supplied & installed a new catalytic converter with no consideration to the quality of fitting as the exhaust has been welded out of position causing it to vibrate against other parts of the car as well as causing the rear boxes to sit badly. The noise level of the system is unbearable both inside & out, which I will have determined by an independent garage as to whether this is due to the fitting or parts supplied. Either being the case I ask that I am refunded for the fitting costs, or if the parts are not suitable (Ref. Trade Description Act 1968 & Consumer Rights) then refunded for the parts on return or for the full amount if it is found that both are inadequate.
If you wish to contact me please do so via the address provided above, in the meantime I will seek advice & quotes to put right both the exhaust & damaged caused to the sills.
Regards,
....

Will speak to MidlandVW about repairs.

Was this by any chance a larger more corporate company, something such as...kwik fit maybe?
Or a self owned buisness?

Nah, small local place! :undecided:

I reckon i could do mine in a Saturday morning/Afternoon, although the inner sill is mostly intact.
They do however tend to split when you pry them back out so dont do it until you have the funds
£250 is a good price for both sides.
I will be welding in an angle section approx 300mm long both sides to strengthen the whole jack point and furious undersealing to boot.
When the prvious owner got mine bent they obviously moved up another 6 inches and had another go with the widow maker.!
Check "getting a valver" thread as this has been discussed with log removal solution for VR owners

Oh cheers! Thanks for the info.

Well the garage phoned after recieving my letter, they've offered to put right the exhaust & fix the cills free of charge.
Spoken to Jodie at Midland & he's put me onto a guy local who does bodywork to quote for the cills too.
Getting everything right for free is very tempting, but I'm just not sure what the quality would be like especially as they fubar'd it in the first place & tried to hide it.
Sooo, what do I do? Get it done free but pester the hell out of them & check up on the work? Walk away & fork out for a 'proper' repair?
Dilema!
-
Well I'd take it back and at least give them the chance to sort the Zorst out and do the jacking points too. At the end of the day it's free, and so it should be as it's their c#ck-up.
but as you say keep a close eye on the work done. I would avoid a welded exhaust if you could. If it ain't right again its gonna be a real ball ache to keep un-tacking the welds. See if they can sort it "normally" then you could tack it together when your happy it doesn't vibrate and knock.

Thanks, that's the lines I'm thinking along, just been & had a chat with 'Phill' at Damel Motors who happens to just be a VW bodywork specialist 100 yards from where I work! He's going have a look on Friday & I'll go from there, he's said he'd look at the exhaust too, just want it fixed tbh & not have to worry about it being done half-arsed.
Will keep you posted!
