Looking for a good non acidic wheel cleaner that will clean and keep the brake dust off my anni wheels. Any recommendations. Has to be a semi-decent price lol.

To get them clean, use anything from P21's to tar remover. Once clean, seal them with something like poorboys wheel sealant. From then on, all you'll need is a wet sponge to clean them.

Ok, what sort of quantity of it are you after? Also why does it have to be non acidic, these types are a lot less harmful than the alkali ones, I'm told!
Bilberry wheel cleaners a decent product, smells nice and a lot less agressive than many others I've used. You can get it in 1 Litre, or 5 Litre bottles, and its very reasonable.
I also have Megs Hot Rims, but water it down 2:1 at least and it still does a great job. IMO stay away from the AG wheel cleaner, its harsh, white bottle orange label, (but they do a non acidic version now but I'm yet to try it).
Plus, if you have the time, take your wheels off, give them a good clean, seal them with something like Pooboys Wheel Sealant, Zaino CS etc, and all you'll need is a good shampoo. The dirt will wash off easily.

Was just told to try and use a non acidic wheel cleaner as they can damage your wheels after a while. Would a good coat of wax seal the wheels?

yep acidic wheel cleaner will over a period of time will wreck your rims, autosmart do g101 which is very good for cleaning wheels and is highly dilutable and still does the job,
as said earlier in this thread poorboys wheel sealent is good,i my opinion any "good" sealent will do the job and yes a layer of wax will add another layer of protection and will stop brake dust penetrating the surface and make it easier to clean off!
i use chemical guys m-seal and collinite 845 insulator wax on mine!!! they A:look well shiney and B: are extremely easy to keep clean :wink:

Actual wheel sealant is not that expensive to buy, and lasts ages..

i use muc-off to clean and poorboys wheel sealant to protect... both very good

Oranges = Citric Acid. I wouldn't put that on my alloys either. I cant recommend Bilberry highly enough, its a great wheel cleaner and safe on all types of alloys.

I bought it for the Bike really, but read it was good for alloys (obviously not!), it is still a great product though, for everything other than alloys!

The Orange stuff will be made using Orange oil which iirc from my days in the lab at autosmart is not acidic but I would primarily use anything like that as a degreaser. Its commonly used in hand cleaners. So if ok for skin I would imagine wheels will be reasonably safe.

That makes no sense at all? Would you use this on your hands then? its like saying, "Well its made from oranges, so is orange juice, so I guess its ok to drink"
I wonder what orange oil contains, could it be CITRIC ACID? Surely not.
Hot Rims is another product that contains Alkaline salts, so is non acidic, watered down about 4:1 its good to clean and non damaging.

Orange oil is derived from the skins of oranges not the juice of oranges citric acid would be trace when diluted correctly. In any case any cleaner should be diluted which again would diminish acid effect. Alkali's have a bad effect on alloys thats why you would tend to avoid getting salts or tfr's on your alloys just as much as avoiding acids if people are gonna get that twitchy about it.

highly diluted truckwash 68 is fine to use on alloys in extreme cases as long as you A:dont let it dry on there before you wash it off and B:seal/wax your alloys after.
so you used to be in the autosmart lab Dan :wink: ive been using autosmart products for a long time now and my customers love the finish they produce, i take my hat off to you guys who spend a long time refining products to make it easier for us detailers and produce great results.

it sounds bad but i use wilkinsons own brand wheel cleaner for about £1.50 its non acidic and cleans pretty good :cool:
