Title: Short circuit
Post by: ramjet on 07 September 2008, 08:01
Hi Guys,

i did an error I guess.Took out the ecu and plugged it back as wanted to check the wipers. Now the car cant start and also fuel pump dont seem to run when ignition on.

Connected the pump directly and also did not start. Some guys told that the static could have short circuited the ecu.Oh god a stupid mistake.Anyway,Mines an AGU,anyone replaced the ecu number 6oa 906 018 AD.How much for a used ecu??

did you not disconnect the battery before removing the ECU?

2nd hand one is about £50 or so

Hello m8,

I have had 100s of AGU ecus in and out of cars, with the battery still live and never had 1 problem.  It is very very hard to kill the Bosch ME3.8  ecu so I doubt you ecu is dead. The problem could be, that you pulled a wire out of one ofthe loom plugs, pushed in or bent a pins in the on the ecu. or knocked the ecu and caused a dry joint. Where are you from?

Hi Nick,

Thanks for the reply.Ok I have a serious problem not really sure what to do.Also I checked with a scan tool and for engine dtc it says link error.

Also i'll tell you what i did,and i think it was my stupid mistake to do such but did try before and it didn't fail.Ok I attempted to change the chip as I was told by the previous owner ,he chipped the car but it doesnt feel as such.So I tried to fix the other chip and both chips are of the same make AMD and year 1997.After carefully putting it in I tried starting and it didn't.Changed over to the one that was in there in the first place and it to didn't work as well.

Ok I was in the UK before but am in Malaysia. The scan tool says Link error hence no comm between the scan tool and ecu or maybe the ecu is out. Also the meter cluster doesn't work now. What can i do.Thats the only think I touched but now am about to find out the real problem or yet to.

I hope you can assist. If mine is 60A 906 018 CG must i reset the immo and let me know if you can get me a used unit. Thanks bro.

Ram

Hello,

The immo is on the serial eeprom chip not the AM29f200 chip you are playing around with.

The Chip needs to be the same as the one that came out the number I think it should be is an AMD AM29f200BB ? Plus the information on that file needs to match the ecu and car.

The information on the file from your 06A906018CG 1.8L R4/5VT should be 0261200518 - 1037352127
If this is all ok then the problem culd be down to a naffed solder solder pad. chip fitted wrong way around, shorts on the chip legs, or solder shorting the some of the other chips.  You really have to butcher the ecu to kill it.

If you get another ECU you will need to change the immo chip or have the chip patched to work on your car.

The car could have already been remapped, but the power can lost via a boost leak, naff n75 or duff maf.

Hello ,

Thanks again.Ok i think the shoulder pas is the part where the chip sits on top and being closed in by a flat black platic open in the center. It seems to locked the chip in.Am I right.it does not seem to sit in proper.Cant force it hard as it may break then all is lost.

Link error might be becuase the part has no contact right. So how to solve this bummer.Fixed it many times over but no help. What should I do.Sorry bro to trouble.Anyway, another ecu can the immo be taken off as unitronic of us says it can.

Thanks for your help.

Hello,

Dont bother with the plastic holder, they are crap some tuners still use the because they cannot solder well or they dont have faith in there skills.

Can you take a photo and post it up?

Hi Nick,

Thanks for that and I'll do o=it asap.Anyway i'd like to enquire for a remapped ecu without the immo if you can supply and/or if I ship mine to you and you do it.

How much for the work done.Give me a fair figure to work out as comments on your site says the car pulls nicely and all.Mine is so sluggish or has been. Now with 189kms on it and just replace a reconditioned turbo as well and it really sluggish compared to a MK 5.Let me know.

Appreciate your kind assistance.

Thanks

Regards
