.....my Skyline sold last night and I went straight to my local VW dealer today to ask them to search for a GTI based on my budget and requirements.
After requesting more details, etc, I have put down a deposit on a late 55-plate GTI (November registered) with a manual 'box. So coming to the end of the warranty, but they said they'll give me another years warranty.
Been trying to find out more about the various factory recalls - and all I've managed to find out so far is the engine management flash (to 24k6) and something about the fuel pressure regulator. My friend at VW looked up the history of the car for me and the service details they had showed there was no outstanding recall work to be done, but I wondered if there's any way I can check that these 2 things have been done ?
Anyway, once I collect the car I'll be sure to put a couple of pics up.

Thanks.
Here's a couple of shots of the Skyline from a dyno day in May and an engine shot taken just before it went:

That engine bay looks really well kept! Nice work!

Lovely lovely lovely car. Even though the GTI is good, I bet you are still going to miss that thing A LOT!!!!!

I'm sure i recognise that motor. You ever done any work for Fatman Studios?

Sorry, never even heard of "Fatman Studios"
Thanks for the kind comments re: the Skyline. I had 5.5 years of great enjoyment from that car, but lack of use really was the driving force behind selling it. Just couldn't justify keeping it anymore. I'm sure I'll miss it, but when you're not driving a car it doesn't make a great deal of sense to keep it. I'm just really looking forward to my GTI arriving now
So, can nobody summarise the recall's I've mentioned and what I should be looking for with regards to checking they've been done on the car I'm getting ?
Cheers,
Daz

Only update I've had was the 24k6 ECU. My GTI is a Sept 2006 (MY2007) car - this was done at the first service last year.

You might want to check out the steering on and off from full lock as some cars had steering rack issues that were resolved under warranty. It sounds like a grating/crunching sound if it is there and you'll know straight away after two or three turns of the wheel.

Thank you both :)

You got any plans for the GTI Soundlab? Or since the Skyline have you had enough of modifying for the time being - hence going for a more sensible car i guess!?
-
nice skyline, congrats on the gti

The items you mention aren't recalls but merely an update that is either carried out when the vehicle routinely visits the workshop or the dealer may chose to write to the customer.
I'm not sure if it's the same for VW as Skoda but Skoda place a sticker in the boot adjacent to the build specification sticker under the carpet and also in the service book when the ECU update is carried out. If you bought from a VW dealer then the workshop would most likely do the flash during PDi if it's not already been carried out.

WhiteGTI - the intention is to keep the Golf fairly standard, I might allow myself a REVO remap down the road some, but for now it'll stay as VW intended.
I spent alot of money on my Pulsar GTI-R (which was running over 300hp) and then another shedload on the Skyline (which was running 440hp) so over 9 years I've spent a fair bit on modifying cars. I'd like to move away from that and just enjoy owning and using a car instead of modifying and worrying about it all the time.
Don't get me wrong though, I have enjoyed having my cars tuned...who doesn't enjoy planting their right foot on 440hp with a straight six twin turbo howling away !!, but, for me, there's always those "what's that noise ?" or "hmmm, that doesn't sound right" thoughts in the back of your mind and you start to wonder how expensive it's going to be.
I still think I'm going to really enjoy the GTI, it offers a bit of everything. Decent motoring, quality and style and the opportunity of some fun when you want to have some. It's a great all-rounder.
Joesgti / vRStu - thanks :)
