Title: Centre Armrest
Post by: clive on 04 September 2008, 22:56
Should the centre armrest lock into position when pushed right back?

If I slide mine all the way forward it clicks into position and I would have expected the same when sliding it all the way back.

Thanks,
Clive

Mine doesn't that I've noticed. If I lightly "drag" my arm on the armrest it will slide forwards.

Cheers, thought mine might be broken.  It's a bit annoying as it slides quite easily, when reaching for the gear leaver etc.  And when its all the way forward it blocks the handbrake lever.

Maybe i'm just being picky though :)

Yeah it is a little annoying. But I think it's general usefulness and comfortableness (is that a word?) makes up for it!!

Despite having it, I haven't really used it much, even on motorway driving.

Nice to have the option on a long run for both left and right elbows. Sometimes find the right door rest too low and the upper too high. Hey ho :undecided:

Mine doesnt click in, and yeh the handbrake thing can be annoying; but i'm so glad i've got it now. I went for a drive in my old car today which doesnt have one and i kept going to lean but just falling sideways. I love my armrest!

I don't know why they make this an optional extra - in my mind its a necessity

Your right, it shouldn't be an option. Iv'e now paid for two now and the week after I bought my ED30 they bought out the Pirelli and made it standard  (along with the rear tint's I paid for too!! ) (oh and the metallic paint  )

Does anyone know if it is possible to have the centre armrest retro-fitted?

My GTi doesn't have one, and although I vowed never to buy a car without one, the car I eventually found was too good and I had to compromise. I still think I'd like one though, if anything just to finish off the interior...

LOL NewGolf good work on the Mrs TC pic.

Even I had a Magnum in honor of TC today, but none of this dark south american rubbish, a proper mint magnum

Anyway back to the topic  :lipsrsealed:

Does any know what the official name of the cubby hole/storage tray thing (also where the CD Changer/iPod adapter goes) that fits under the arm rest. I want to get a spare to build a dock for my iPhone 3g as the VW bluetooth kit absolutely mullers the battery

Wow!  Just makes you realise how much effort goes into designing a part like the armrest.  In my previous car (a Toyota) it was just 2 parts, the storage area and the lid!  But then it had no ventilation or cup holders.

I don't think I have ventilation inside the storage area (under the armrest) on my GTI, will have to check next time i'm in the car!

My armrest locks when right forward AND when it is in the full back position.
