So, if I were to contemplate selling my March 08 Edition 30... what would it be worth?
UK car (bought direct from VW UK), Silver, Manual, 5dr, 7k miles, 30gb DVD Sat Nav, Premium OEM Bluetooth integration, Cruise Control
Would I be better of selling these parts seperately or fitted to car...
Sachs Coilovers (cost new around £1k)
Full Turbo back Resonated Miltek System (cost new around £1100)
Just a few thoughts going round my head at moment... so only a consideration.
-
What ever your thoughts are stop thinking, they are all bad ideas.
-
Cocopops i hope your not thinking of getting one of those Yank tank's that you hired on holiday recently.
-
Bagsy the Miltek LOL
-
ps, for price are you thinking private sale or dealer PX
-
It would be a private sale I guess, not looking to p/ex it right now.
-
Well, looking at prices recently 18.5 k + or thereabouts , i know its cheap and probably worth more to you
-
50p.
I'll come collect it tonight.

£1.00 Autobid
-
Yeah, thats why I'm only considering shaun! :)
Also, 18.5k for a standard car, plus a grand/maybe £1500 for the sachs/miltek would see me at 19.5k-20k
Just had a look at pistonheads.... for once, there aren't that may Ed30's (when you filter Golf GTI for "edition 30")
-
will your coilovers fit a standard GTI
-
Yep :) They are the ones featured in the Volkswagen Driver magazine when they were fitted to my car! :)

look on Autotrader, theres a few at the moment, also noticed less than a year old S3's are about 19k too
-
I could be very interested in your coilies if they would defo fit a DSG GTI
-
I doubt if there would be much difference, but Eibach did two versions of their coilovers - one for manuals and one for DSG.
I'd check before commiting. From memory it maybe different mounting diameters.

Thank's Hurdy i was thinking this a couple of companies do a slightly different version for the DSG.

Big smile on page 4  Did they make much difference to the ride and handling?

£12k for an Edition 30  that's £10k depreciation in a year.
Once again stealers earn their name!

maye they have hard time selling them on, especially tuned ones, therefore the price is low.
Here there are many E30s for sale, but you do not see many on the streets.

Lee, the mods will add to nothing in trade in. Sell the car standard and auction off the other bits. Part ex price would look for 50% of what you payed for origonally. Lucky to shift as others have said 18k approx.
Your mad to be thinking this. You may well regret it.
its a cash buyers market currently but not a trade in Market. your throw thousands away.
-
I was about to say exactly what Phil said. The main reason the stealer has offered you 12k is because added extras and aftermarket modifications add absolutely nothing to a PX price. I would guess that every dealership will tell you this. Similarly, many people looking in the private market have taken this to be a universal principle of selling a used car, thus it can be difficult to get a price the car is actually 'worth' in reality; unless someone is looking for exactly what you have done to your ED 30, in which case they would obviously be willing to fork out. Personally if you do decide to sell I would get it as close to stock as you can, and earn a bit of money back from your mods - particularly those which aren't a big hassle to remove and replace.
-
I also agree with Phil.My Jeep wrangler was fully prepared for off road use.Lifted, diffs changed,33"tyres,custom exhaust etc etc. When traded in for the 1st GTI VW offered me book price for the year of manufacture.Fortunately for me I kept everything I modded.returned it to standard and sold the bits for over 5 grand.
The look on the dealers face when I returned to pick up the golf was priceless.

Even I would give you 12.5k cash for it
Keep it would be my advice!!!
-
Agree with the comments here mate - Keep it. Given the current economic climate, you will be lucky to get anything like a realistic price from a dealer/trader and private buyers will also haggle hard.
Too much money to lose and I personally wouldn't give the dealers the opportunity to profit from your good fortune to own this car. They are taking the pi$$ for sure because they think they can get away with it. Tell e'm to feck off and just keep it and enjoy it.
Recent figures for new car sales have just been released and they are the worst since the 1960's. Yes there is a global recession but this Government hates the car and is trying to tax us all off the road (I now I shouldn't go here but I can't help it - it's not our fault - it's down to them, period ).

Well, I think I may sell the Miltek and Sachs Coilovers to gain a little cash and then think a bit more seriously about what happens next.
-
£12k!    for an Ed 30    I would have been expecting that for my 55 plate GTi! from the sounds of it I would be lucky to get £9k! :(
If someone was selling an Ed30 like that on autotrader or ebay there would be loads of posts on here saying DODGY DEAL and STEER CLEAR, CAT D etc
I EFFING HATE Dealers! they are slimy, scum sucking, toerags who deserve ALL they get or don't get in through the worst of the credit crunch. I would keep your car it is fantastic, or sell it to me for £12k instead of the barsteward dealer.
-
i got offered 14k for mine 4 weeks ago against a 08 reg s3 with 30miles on it. also knocked 1k off screen price of s3 to £24850. i said i would want 16k for it and they were ready to give me it. i walked away tho very disapointed with the s3, quite dull to drive and not worth £8850 over ed 30 at all imo but thats another story
-
thats what i thought , the s3 was a bit of a disapointment really , dont get me wrong its a great car but i think i was expecting too much , and i think the golf looks better but audi better built (http://) (http://i337.photobucket.com/albums/n374/candyturbo_2008/DSCF1261.jpg)
-
....Interesting comments about the S3. I want to test drive the new S3 Sportback quattro with S-tronic (DSG) next year. It seems that the Audi's still need modding not to be too grown-up and bland.

i seen a white one of them yesterday , looked nice , they have the wheels off the a5 , would look good on the golf i thought
-
Coco,
I would even consider taking out the sat nav and putting in a RCD300 if you were serious about trading in as dealer would def not give you any extra for it IMO.
Its def a buyers market at the moment, dealers will try their luck to see if they can make some money on the off chance.my local garage has 3 R32's and they have been there for a while.
-
yep even r32's are rocks bottom at the moment  saw an 08 dsg go on fleebay for £16,601 recently ..I assume that it sold...there was no negative feedback after the sale etc..mind you not that that goes for much.
-
....It may be a buyer's market at the moment but if you're buying you have to also sell.
I wish I hadn't seen that red modded S3 Sportback!
