Hey
The car is now ready for me to collect from Regal tomorrow, had a good chat with Chris (Regal Autosport boss) today about the work carried out and he's extremely pleased with the results and the installation!
The car is running perfectly, Regal have spent a long time adapting the kit for the 8P S3 and perfecting the map along with GIAC to have the car run safely and within the limits of the standard engine internals, power and torque figures were important but not the main aim of the project, overall drivability and reliability were paramount!
I will be posting up full logs and graphs later on today once I have them but to give you a quick idea of what affect the conversion has had on the car here are some before and after power/torque figure comparisons..
With all the mods on the car previous to the conversion the car made
358bhp
348ft/lbs
With the Regal Autosport Vf Engineering RS/S kit the car made
417bhp
385ft/lbs
Although the top end figures are impressive, Chris tells me that one of the most noticeable differences is in the mid range pull, so the car is going to feel like it has a lot more than the power increase suggests!
Picking up the car tomorrow, ill nick my brothers camera for the day and get a load of pics of the conversion too.. My god, I cant wait!!!
Full review of the car tomorrow, ill have a good long drive back from Southampton so should have a good idea how well it goes after that!
________________________________________________________________
Update 1:
Here is the dyno graphs comparing the car when it drove into Regal and how it is performing now..
You may notice the noise in the lines past 5500rpm on the Big turbo plot, this is the car trying to jump out of the dyno!! cool ey!
You can run a filter on the results to get rid of any noise in the graph lines but Chris wanted to see a true result from the plot, notice just how smooth the lines are and the shape of the torque curve!!
Its making 340bhp & 380ft/lbs at 4500rpm!!!!
This is going to be amazing!
(Dashed line pre RS/S - Solid line after conversion)

Update 2:
So just got home from driving the car back 300 miles from Southampton, I have to say the car feels very very different after the conversion, even more so now its two cars in one!
Cruising back at normal motorway speeds I achieved 31.9MPG which is better than usual, I put it down to a couple of things, the mapping has been 100% tailored to my specific car so no wasted fuel and also with the car now having a bigger turbo, at cruising speeds in 6th the car is not creating any boost, therefore needs less fueling!
Anyways im sure you all want to hear about the performance, well.. Its pretty stunning to be honest!
Even smoother power delivery than the K04, and all the way to the 7k rev limit, the car has been mapped such that the turbo boost is progressively introduced from 2500rpm so when you accelerate you ride a super smooth wave of torque and power, it feels less aggressive than the K04 kit, but its firing the car down the road much quicker!
Bit cliche but its really one of those cars than anyone could jump into a drive and not even be aware that its running over 400bhp! Very much the feeling you get from a big engined car really!
So all in all its pretty amazing, im extremely pleased with the results and cant wait to come accross some 'fast' cars!:D
Oh.. And it sounds AMAZING!!
Pics and video to follow in the next few days!
________________________________________________________________
Update 3:
So had a chance to drive the car in a few different conditions today, what keeps on impressing me is how smoothly the car comes onto boost and accelerates, really feels like a standard car, but not, if you knwo what I mean! :)
From the engine bay things look pretty much the same as before, I chose to retain my Evoms intake, it had to be cut down very slightly before the MAF housing to fit but it enabled me to keep the cold air feed that I had spent a lot of time sorting out!
Heres a quick picture of the PCV mod that I have been talking about, this blocks off the inlet manifold and you run the hose from the PCV to atmosphere, in certain conditions you will prevent yourself loosing 1-2psi boost when the PCV opens with this mod..
On a side note I have also fitted the facelight tail lights, at the same time I installed the silver rear indicator bulbs which really clean them up! Look so much better than the non-facelift lights, they are tinted slightly, think thats what does it!
Also the Lamin-X headlights, they need a while to settle in, looks like they have conensation behind them at the moment but that will burn off over time, really pleased with the look of them, pretty mean!
Next step for the car is to get the Low compression forged pistons and forged rods in, de-cat the exhaust, go with bigger FSI injectors and re tune the car to suit, should be able to achieve 450bhp and 400ft/lbs after them modifications and run the car a little bit more aggressively on the boost in the mid range..
Big thanks to all the guys at Regal, top job once again!!

417 BHP!!! That is mental!! Not to up to date on the S3 models, im presuming its the latest version?? It sounds like a heap of fun!! 4WD will make things a whole lot better as well. You will be mincing absolutely everything on the road. I am extremely jealous!!
-
God I get of ASN before I go green with frikin envy and you're over here now..
Awesome mate, seriously awesome..
Looks like Revo have blown Bluefin into the weeds too..

Yeah its the 8P S3 hence posting on this forum, as the 8P S3 runs the 2.0T FSI engine found in the Mk5 Gti ED30
More updates tomorrow!!

congrats Jonnnny, have a save journey home, and keep your eyes out on the roads of southampton for Myself and phylis!
Those figures are jaw dropping!!!. i bet you cant wait.
i guess the "ed30 is on the way" is either out of date or your selling the s3 very quickly!!?
-
Did you get in touch with Corey Gaz? Or you going to Prosport?
Prosport mate, had a chat with him today, he's calling me back 2 morra to see if he can fit me in, figured as long as I run the same settings as Corey would do there will be no difference and Prosport is only round the corner from work . Thanx for the advice though pal.
Sorry for stealing the topic jonnnny, but do the S3 guys run the same settings as you Ben?
-
I dare not ask the price but with the cash would not buying an RS4 been a better option ?
-
Not really, Jonny's S3 would eat a RS4 and spit it out in bits.. Plus spending extra £'s by progressively modding a car isn't really the same as going out and buying a more expensive one in the first place.. Modding is like being a drug addict for a start, you don't really care about how much money you've spent until it's to late..

Iggu is running similar/same settings, yeah. He PM'd me to ask what settings mine was running.
Would love to see what his would run on Awesome's rollers to get a direct comparison.. He seems chuffed to bits though. Not suprised considering he's added 50bhp from his original Bluefin map..
-
They are impressive figures aren't they, it would be interesting to get both your cars on the same rollers. Nearly ordered a Milltek and intake today when I read that over on A/s.net, but monies a bit tight after putting the extra to the S3, so going to have to make do with 300+bhp
-
Poor you eh...
-
I'll cope, switched the traction off last night in the rain, the switch from front to rear drive is much more aggressive than my old 8l S3, you get a small tail slide before the front pulls it straight again comin out of roundabouts, it was a right giggle
-
400+bhp
380+lbft
You definitely need 4WD with those figures.
*although I can see the cogs whirring inside Ben's head now*

I know have been there and done it
then added up the costs of the cash it costs and resale of the car and no warranty and these days your much better off just buying a faster car
let alone trying to tell your insurance company what the car is worth if its written off.
yes put a chip in and exhaust but any more is total lost money better spent on a TTRS or Porsche.
you can get a Cayman S for 30k which will walk all over a 320Bhp VW or Audi turbo car and you can sell it after for 60% of the cost
Modded cars hard very hard to sell on and sometime sell for less than the base spec model due to low demand.
So not only do you lose 100% of the money you have spent on it you also cannot shift it.
-
Yes thats all the bad point, but there are many more merits t modding :)
I dont regret doin my Stage 3 conversion.
-
If you watched 5th Gear this week (although still pretty crap) was not bad for once - most sensible thing they said was about how to avoid the new road tax increase - best option being modify as currently it doesnt effect roadtax
All sounds good - think I could be tempted with a S3 sportback next - need more doors

....I looked at the A3 Sportback 3 years ago when I chose the GTI. The new 5-door S3 quattro Sportback is a far more interesting prospect and I might blag a test drive just for the fun of it.
The TT RS would be even better but will cost around £40k - All I'd need would be a Milltek.....Wouldn't I?

....It's not just about money though is it. Neither is it about restricting what you want to do to improve and personalise your car just for the sake of the next owner.
For example, modding my GTI gives me the car I would still prefer to its money equivalent when accounting for the extra costs of its mods. So what if I could have bought a faster car for the same money - It's not necessarily the car I want. Not everybody wants an even more powerful or faster car.
The new S3 quattro Sportback 5-door is a serious rival to the Mk5 GTI/Ed30 but it still looks bland imo - It would need modding.

Explain to me how a car that is similar weight to a 320bhp VW Golf but has nearly 30bhp less will walk all over it?
Yeah I agree the Golf isn't going to be as good round the track, but then for nearly double the money I should think it would be better... (You can't compare new for used IMO)
My Ed30 mods have cost me £700 so far as I got a great deal on a 2nd hand Milltek and discount on my remap. I will make around £300 back for my Milltek when the car goes back and over the 3 years I will have the car, it will have cost me £400 to have an extra 80-90bhp to play with over the next 80,000 fun miles.. A bloody bargain in my eyes!!!

that was part of my point with the thread I started not so long ago
Unless you keep the car for a long time (or you have cash burning your pockets) then I don't see the point of (over)tuning.
For example, I am not so sure I would want to have my E30 in a year's time, therefore tuning it is money thrown to the wind almost

goes back where?
Is it a 3 year lease?
80000 miles?

So is buying a brand new car and selling after a year- in most cases you will loose a lot of money.
Only after keeping the car for 3 years is it by any means cost effective.

Yes mate. Will more than likely be 100,000 when she goes back though. Done 13,000 miles in 4 months already...

Isn't that going to make your car emissions illegal??

Yes, but if you dont tell anyone I wont! :lipsrsealed:

Jonny you have the nicest s3 i have ever seen, your turning it into a real supercar killer .
Pm me if you ever want to sell it

Think you may have to join a long queue mate..

-
lol, I wonder if you got that car second hand what the insurance premium would be.
-
I cant think any reason to change mine for an s3 except the 4 wheel drive and a few extra horses. Its too simular looking to an ordinary a3
just with a touch of scotch bonnet chillies under the Bonnet.
i wish they would make it look different to the rest of the lineup.

Sorry jonnny, just not a fan of the s3. If you prefer it to what youve had before mate, thats all the matters. We all have different tastes.
-
Na I know, im only messing, I loved my GTI!!
The S3 is quite a different car though, but like you say, all personal tastes! :)

You know what Audi need to produce NOW?
The RS3.
-
totally agree, and then the dealer will give me a huge price for the ed30, then we have a deal!!!!, but cars worth buttons these days, just been looking on VW's Website, and found an 07 ed30 dsg for £14995!!!!. 40k on the clock but still too dam cheap for my liking.

 that's worse news for me as I've already got over 11K on mine and it's only 4 months old
But on the bright side I have just brought today something to compliment the ED30 and hopefully in the future will be able to used a bit more often to stop me putting soooo many miles on on the ED30.
