Title: Steering Problem
Post by: jimmyob on 03 September 2008, 14:41
hi guys,
a few more problems have popped up on my car.
This is the latest, been doing a bit of motorway driving and there'a few problems with the steering:
When the wheel's centered there's a lot of play before i feel any resistance.
I'm getting quite a lot of vibration at speed as if the wheels are unbalanced (they were balanced only a month ago)
This seems to get worse when turning left on the motorway.
The car is pulling to the left (defo pulling as tracking is fine at low speeds)
When i feed the steering wheel back after turning it returns in notchy stages.
There's funny wobble to the car as if one front wheel is oval shaped. (As far as i know all the wheel are round though lol)

I have a feeling that a lot of these aren't related but was thinking some of them could be something to do with a wheel bearing?

Any help would be great so i dont have to spend 94 grand 50 on a diagnosis,
Cheers
Jim

rhyso is right classic signs of low fluid, if it's a 1.8 turbo then your pump may have failed, up my mates garage last week and he was doing a pump on one and said it's his 3rd one this year so seems a common fault.

And as rhys says Steering racks go for a pass time, mine was firing fluid out from the rubber boot
