all the best with fixing it :)
-
Sorry to hear about this, as your car is f'kin sweet. :'(
-
Owww that looks bad!! Why is it a write off then? Just because of the value of the car against the damage? or Is there structural damage as well?? Also, How did you crash?
If all else fails, Get some people on here to help you, Buy another Mk1, Carry your nicly painted pannels, interiour etc over onto the other Mk1 then see where you go from there ;D
Chin up, Always look on the bright side ;)
-
Hi mate,
I feel your pain. :'( Best of luck fixing it,
all the best

daaaaaaaamn :(

Hello matey - what have the insurance company said so far? seeing as the incident was caused by someone swerving a dog on the road, which isn't what your supposed to do might be able to work an angle here.....
"You were a safe distance from the car in front, having a mk4 GTi he could stop in half the distance you could having a mark one, the car in front of him isn't supposed to swerve an animal in the road as it causes accidents - as this proves" ... might get some comeback of his insurance!
Worth a phone call - what do you reckon ?
-
NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!
Sorry to see your car in that state, enough to make grown men cry :'(

Shaun it was a pleasure mate, we were just f**kin gutted for you. Fair play, it takes bollocks to write off your pride and joy and still make the effort to get to the show.

:'( http://www.golfgtiforum.co.uk/gallery/displayimage.php?album=187&pos=6 :'(
I shed tears today. Feel like a bit of a woofter but understandable. With all the other s**t that?s going on in my life this was kinda the final straw. My little escape is no more. Wish it was my fault then I wouldn't feel so bad, sounds silly but you know what I mean. I'm still glad I went to the show, cos being towed straight home would have left me in a right state, meeting you guys made things better. You're a top geeza gaz and hope we all meet up again soon.
15 miles from the show and cars are swerving everywhere, two dogs that strayed from a gypsy camp were in the middle of the road, 1 car panicked, slammed on the brakes and the rest is obvious. The gypo's didn't claim responsibility. The car gets towed away to a lock up and 3 hours later, one of the people involved takes me to the show as he was going anyway. Thanks mate. (Although you?re prob gonna claim off me!) Luckily rich sent me his number the day before so I can text him to meet up. If he hadn?t of done that then I would've had to of gone straight home. Thanx to gav and Rich for sneaking me into the campsite!
David, I haven?t spoke to insurance yet, about to. Just got out of hospital as my neck started swelling up, can't move! Bizarre! I spoke to the witness, but he didn't even know the cars in front had collided before I went in. Shame really. Not holding out much hope. I'll let you know what happens.
If anybody see's any black MK1's for sale for good money then please let me know. Mustn?t be too expensive as I?ve still got ?3k to pay off for this car! :'(
-
Thanx to gav and Rich for sneaking me into the campsite!
^^^^^^I can't believe we did anything like that :o :P
Seriously though, remove the airbox, metering unit and battery etc., and have a good look at that chassis rail, the structure around the turret and the chassis area around your wishbone.......might also help to take the wing off if you can.
Make sure that damage isn't repairable before writing it off. You'd be amazed what can be straightened out.
Totally agree with Gav, not sure I'd have carried on and gone to the show after that........not even with advanced tickets, fair play to you.
Hopefully see you and many others at Action.
-
The only way I could win anything is if the police did the driver at the front of the accident for dangerous driving. They didn't. so the mk4 will now claim off me! ?3k gone.. The suspension turret is twisted a little and has cracked around the seams. hmmmmmmmmmmm, if only you could have a proper a look at it. Not sure what to do right now. :'(
-
:'( :'( :'(
gutted mate... I'm really feeling for ya... looks pretty nasty but my car has been in a front ender, twice.. Previous owner, my mate, sliped on ice and went into a skip, buggered the front passenger side bit like your, nothing a tree, bits of rope and a D vice couldnt sort out, second time was me, went into a WOMAN at a round about, got that trusty rope and D clamp out again... After I sold it a pro/cowboy did it , with new wing, a bit of brute force and some gentle hammer persuasion he seems to have done a goodish job.... Good luck in you decision mate...
-
Marcus you would have cried if you'd seen it. He paid ?3000 for it only a few weeks ago.......it was mint. Definately worth trying to fix.......specially as its a limited edition......and there are only 3 left ......and that includes his :o
-
Where abouts are you located? i can get very cheap parts from GSF, I know there usally low quality but if theres anything you need i can get a 10% discount from there and try to take some of the expences of repairing a car from you 8) If you need any help with your car dont hesitate to ask. Me and im sure some of the other members would be happy to drive up to where ever you are to help you get your car back on the road.
Right guys???
-
Yeah, Looks beautiful in the photos... Real shame but just went to have a look at my car, that crack he has, I have a little one too, mine if fixed but you can see it WAS there... I seriously recons its fixable, how fast were you going at impact about??
-
When in doubt, Buy a old Mk1 from a scrappy, Rip out the frame and carry the parts over.
-
When its 1 of 3 limited editions get Jim and FIX IT ;)
-
proper gutted for you! i hope you are alright man, tough break :'(
-
You're all so cool. cheers for the support. I may need help with stuff as i'm a little lost upstairs as to what to do at the mo. Brcause of the car, I'm willing to somehow find the money to fix if poss! Can't bring myself to give up on it. As for d-clamps and trees. I wouldn't know ehere to start, would defo have to have someone look at it. I'm gonna have a think tonight and make some kind of plan. firstly, where shall i put her for the time being. ???
-
If your ok to payout ?50-?100 per month, I would put her into a garage until you sort something out. Its a cheap way to keep her safe and out of sight.
Good luck
-
Easy mate...
1. Find a tree
2. Take outer wing, front passenger head light and Grill off
3. position car facing the tree
4. Put the D-clamp throught the headlight hole so it clapms on either side of the inerwing
5. Tie rope around clamp and tree
6. reverse slowly to get tension, once thesion reached, reverse a little harder.....
;)
-
how did it go at the hospital shaun?? :(
try your local council for a garage - there about ?6pw where i am ;)
-
Lad, sorry to hear about what happened, if you are anywhere in se essex, youre welcome to stash it in my garage for nowt :)
-
totally feel your pain.
i total'd mine a few months back. The good thing about old skool golfs is that you can fix them in a few hours. after that its down to a spray job.
chin up. get well soon :)

I've been following this thread all day, and I really cant offer any more sympathy than has been given all ready. I just hope that you can get it all sorted out, and I am sure there are a few people on here who may have some spare parts if you are in need of them.
Keep you chin up, and remember its only metal and can be bent back into shape...

-
i missed inters because of work:( and i thought my luck was poor because of it, this is far far worse, really feel for you. know the feeling well, still cant offer enough sympathy. hope you're alright.
-
hey man, that looks like a harsh stack :o
And the your car looked awesome before it got totalled. nothing worse than munching your pride and joy into someone. hope ya ok and manage to get the car back on the road, mk1's are by far the nicest golfs (although i drive a mk2)
-
Thanx.... I only went to inters for 2 things. 1) to get decent wheels to finsh her off with my hard earned money i saved and 2) to meet some of the people behind the user names. On;y managed 2) but that was well worth it, as i mentioned earlier in this post. The poeple I have met so far are absolute diamonds. :)

Get a garage to look at it for you and ask them to tell you exactally whats wrong with it and what needs doing, Then before you sign to anything post exactally what they said up here and give it 48 hours, By then we should of all been able to come up with ways to get it sorted or parts we can get hold off, The advantage of Mk1s and Mk2s are that theres always a few at a scrap Yard, So replacing old wings and bumpers is always easy. Also, If you need any hard to find parts E-bay is the place to find them, Not always cheap mind, But they always have what you want there.

Or just buy new bits from Euro/GSF, thats always another route. Don't worry, it will all turn out fine. Your pride and joy will be back to her best in a month or 2. Another idea.................. is anyone a paintsprayer on here that can help out?
-
don't GSF sell non genuine wings that fit aswell as a square in a circular hole?
it could be fixed. just do it yourself.

Hey soundillusion
Gutted for you mate, I think I passed you on saturday just after it happened (if it was you parked in the back of a black mk4). Said to my girlfriend at the time it was a real bloody shame about the mk1, of course didn't matter about the mk4! Hope you are ok, I know how you feel totalled my mint oak green valver last year. Very similar damage to yours, the doors didn't meet the windscreen pillars anymore, roof and sills were creased etc etc. The thing that kept my morale up is that i WILL find a replacement no matter how long it takes.
Hats off to ya for pressing on to inters.
Cheers
Toby
-
looks like an excuse to find a good condition shell and reshell the whole lot. wonder what your doing this summer.
-
Bad Luck mate we passed you on the A14 as well. :'( We first heard about the incident on the BBC Suffolk Travel News, was going to stop & help but saw the MKV parked up.
I hope your planning a rebuild because it is one sweet looking car.
-
sorry to hear that, your motor looks sweet even if its crashed. Just put ur chin up, get it done thats what i say. You could think this way, now this is your major project car, just get a 1.8t to put in it and that would be sweet. ;D. were abouts are you, my car gone in for a respary n mods at AS lotta details on good guyz.
-

if you're replacing body panels, go VW every time. the shut gaps will be so much nicer. if you cant afford new VW panels, find tidy s/h ones.
-
^^^^^couldn't agree more. Better to buy a clean second hand original than a new pattern GSF. I think you'll find that apart from VW the only other reliable source for new quality panels is GPC.
-
Mate, i bashed my spotless caddy van into a metal barrier on an A road a few months back.... similar damage to yours at the front.. I nearly cried.. bahhh
But..it can usually be fixed, I used a big hammer, lots of sweat and blood and a credit card for GSF parts !! .. The support offered on here is phenomenal really, just a same it takes an accident to find out how nice & helpful a lot of people are ::)
Good luck ;)
-
rember to keep us posted on how the repair works going, And rember, If theres anything you want. Just ask ;D
-
I may well have a pair of nearly new second hand wings for sale shortly mate... ;D
-
Dude, Looking at your Sig is making me pitch my own tent, If ya know what i mean :P
-
you should have been there mate....was very 'hard' to stay professional ;D ;D ;D
i love my job

LOL 8)

I've found a MK1 driver in a local scrappy with some good panels. Bonnet, wing and inner wing if required. Rare cos the yards round here never have mk1's. Gav have u found some too then? Haven't really done enough yet. Cars still out the side of my house don't know where to put or where to start. A neighbour has offered his garage for a few ? a week but it?s not ready yet.
My old man sent me a txt a couple of weeks ago about a cheap cab. Didn?t really take much notice of it since my gti was enough for me, couldn't look after a cab as well even if it was cheap.. Now my circumstances have changed I thought I?d better check it out. Need a run around. Cars round here like fiesta's and fiat's are knocking out at 400 500, this cab was going for 650. I went to see it the other day. It?s a bit rough, bad paint, lumpy rare 1.4. (Import) It was very low in the rot department and the roof was good though. I managed to knock it down to ?570. Impulsive but I bought it with the money that was meant for the wheels for black magic. My plan is. If the GTI can be repaired, I?ll get on with that and run this cab around. Then maybe in the winter, I?ll strip the cab and give it a new colour!. Maybe black to match. Who knows? Could have a little family eh rich? Got some probs with it already. gotta see if I can fix em. The cooling systems over pressurizing and has already blown a hose up!. Anyway here she is.

-
wow, looks like a good buy mate - now u have to cars to do up, ur gonna have a collection like richs soon 8)
-
Dude, Looking at your Sig is making me pitch my own tent, If ya know what i mean :P
I know what you mean, that new front grill and single lamp conversion does it for me ! ;D ;D ;D
-
nice one shaun! that's a bargain mate....
you may not have seen the thread but I accidentally bought a knackered mk1 on ebay the other day...apparently it has two new front wings on it, so should be able to flog them to you if you need them.
Gav
-
Gav? You know that I?m down at the mo with many things. Well what would really cheer me up is to be your assistant. If you ever need someone to make the teas for the girls you know where I am. ;D
-
How did u accidently buy a mk1? Is it a runner or just for parts? I'll be interested in lots of bits mate if the price is right? Let me know what u've got wen u get it. Got to start moving. Down my local scrappy they want ?15 for a wing ?55 for the whole front section if he cuts it out. Not too sure about that, the inner wings ok but the front valance and slam panel are just rotten.
-
Tell ya what mate, Next weekend im making a trip to 3 local scrappys, If i find any Mk1s ill take pics and put them up here, Then you tell me what parts and ill get a price from the scrap yard and we can work it out from there.
-
Cheers mate. Just read about your car. what did they take. U say it was gutted. *%$&)?)?&"(&"(&?__&^^$!!!!!!!! How bad is it. >:(
-
NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO !!!!!!!
Sorry to see your car in that state, enough to make grown men cry :'(
:'( And women... I hate seeing any car smashed up but its even worse when a gorgous little thing like that takes a beating and when its obviously been very much loved... hope there is someway of fixing it (im only on page 2 so if Im a bit behind you know why)
-
Thanx lynzi. but don't cry, u'll get me going again. sob :'(
-
Cheers mate. Just read about your car. what did they take. U say it was gutted. *%$&)?)?&"(&"(&?__&^^$!!!!!!!! How bad is it. >:(
Well luckly my cars interiour is stripped, So theres only a dashboard, 2 seats etc etc
They took my 2 week old Snooper that was a early Bday pressie, Thats upset me most, They also took my sterio and broke my dash a wee bit, They went after my tacho meter and shift light but they didnt get it off the dash, They smashed my window and scratched the door a little too :( But its getting sorted soon, But i doubt ill get anything for my snooper which is whats really upsetting me :(
-
I'll try not to be, but seriously it did upset me seeing those pics.... I love mk 1's in the shape they were designed not half crumpeled.
Its a shame cos I just sold (2 weeks ago) my mk1 for ?150 and the shell was absolutley mint no rot or rust... you could have had it n just swapped all your bits over eng n interior and got it spray black.
If you need any genuine bits give me a shout my fella works for VW n gets 20% on parts n sh*t
-
That's great, cheers. I'll let you know. I'm going to try my best to have this car repaired. Want to save her if i can. too much right with it to just strip it down. watch this space. x
-
She is a sexy looking thing like I hope you get her put right.. just giz a a shout n I will get any parts you need...my fella was a VW Technician for 11 yrs too so if you cant get answers on here which I doubt, I can ask him for you.
Good Luck chick ;D
-
;) Another star member, cheers. ;)
-
Only just picked up on this thread, bad luck mate. I know how it feels when your pride and joy is smashed up. Whether you repair it or have to move onto your next project I wish you luck.
Darren.
-
Thanx man, gonna try and get it fixed. Still not sure if poss. That reminds me. I must mail Knightrider.
-
Hey sound, have you managed to sort your car out or havs the upsetting thing happened and you have had to bin it?
ory if you've done this in another thread!
-
There should be a proper resto section when work gets started. Sadly all I've managed to do is put her in dry storage so far. Watch this space.
-
It will be worth it mate.
Goodluck
