Hello all,
Not sure what is wrong, so thought I would ask you guys!
Basically, when the car is running and in Neutral, and my foot is off the clutch, there is a horrible rattling/knocking noise from the gearbox area
As soon as I put my foot on the clutch, the noise dissapears. Sometimes, when I release the clutch pedal again the noise doesn't come back, but sometimes it does!
Any ideas?

Could be the release bearing on the clutch.

or flywheel

Either of the above.
Just out of interest, how many miles has your motor done & which model is it?
-
97k miles
1999, 1.8T, AGU engine

In that case, I'd recommend getting the lot done whilst it's all apart - Clutch/Fly/Bearing. The clutch usually takes the flywheel out (or could be the other way around or both - I can't remember). No point paying for more than 1 lot of labour!
Unless you're good on the spanners yourself??
-
Useless with spanners mate if I'm honest!
How much you reckon I would be looking at for the lot - fitted?
*prepares himself for a big bill!*

Rich W has recently had his done - Think he paid about £400 (or just under), IIRC.

will 99% be clutch release bearing especially if noise goes when clutch is pressed, how loud is it, had a celica with bearing gone done 10k in it and sold it like it never became a problem apart from noise it made which wasnt too bad on mine
