Not bad, not sure you 'need' them like you say but an option at least.  They do look much better that some of the options I have seen in the past.

On a side note, I had my paddles replaced as they started peeling too - too much use maybe

....Thanks for reading, neg. I thought I had written that I didn't need them but they were a great improvement - Like most good mods.

My heater knobs peeled while I was under warranty and I didn't even mention it to my dealer but he noticed it and decided to offer me a complete new aircon dual control unit - Which I accepted of course.

Ah yes you did and I agree - just like I didnt 'need' better suspension, 19" wheels ... the list could go on    I would be interested to try them though - just not sure about sticking them on in case I wanted to remove.

In fact thinking about it there is the odd occasion where I use the stick - like when going round a corner to change gear as you cant always get to the paddle - like when pulling away from a junction /lights.  :undecided:

....The paddleshifters themselves are so strongly built that you wouldn't damage them removing but depending on just how strong that VickyBH sticky tape is, you might pull off the stock paddles! I doubt it though - I reckon the tape would give out first. I doubt very much that someone wouldn't like them.

These paddle extensions now help some of those 'emergency' floor stick actions pulling away from roundabouts etc.

....The moulding is such that it's impossible to mount them wonkey but they are slightly angled towards the palm of your hand (a good feature) and so the pic might have emphasised something.

Since posted: Price for the carbonfibre paddleshifters, including vat but excluding postage/shipping is £159. The aluminium versions cost £99.01 but I wouldn't recommend them because I know from the experience of an aluminium gear knob how hot and cold the material feels to the touch. The aluminium ones don't have the 'finger-ridge' either and would look much more in-your-face too - Not so subtle.

As Biali's Dan says, who works with CF: "Whats more amazing is the amount of design work that must have gone into that mounting part.  Still trying to work out how they made it!  The paddles are made in 2 halves and bonded together which is difficult to do neatly and it adds quite a bit of time to manufacture of them.  Not sure how much they were (think I've seen online price) but reckon it was a bargain for how difficult it is to make each one."

If you mean the thread about the worse possible colour for a GTI, then yes it was sadly lost in the great forum crash of 2008

....A remap I don't know of but ITG plus Carbonio which is what I have.

The reason behind me having that remap was covered in the thread TopCat was referring to where I had a remapped (dodgy colour) normal GTI from my dealers as a loan car for nearly a week.

Basically after some issues getting a delivery fault and subsequent (dealer caused) damaged sorted on my car they offered me a good price  on the services of their sister company Richter Sport to provide a remap.

As I said above I had been driving their normal GTI demo car which had also been remapped by them and had been very impressed with the improvement to the car.

While if I had been paying for the map my only choice would have been Revo, however this opportunity plus the commitment from my dealer to fully support any warranty claims that could fall into the "grey" area of where the remap could have caused the issue, I felt happy to try it.

It's now been on for nearly 2 months and 6K miles and I am very happy with the overall result

....I'm sure that most of us would have done exactly the same if in your circumstances.

Glad to hear it's all going so well :afro:  :afro:

....Just an update - I've been getting more used to the paddleshifters and overall I much prefer them to the stock paddles. However, the lower extensions don't action the gearshifts as superbly as the upper extensions do - The leverage seems to be weaker. I hasten to add that they are well and truly stuck on and integrated with the stock paddles and so there is no weakness whatsoever in their installation. The key to using them is to gently pull on the ridge as if beginning to close your palms. They are much more at your fingertips than the stock ones - The connection between brain decision and finger action is faster.

A couple of times I have unintentionally changed gear when I wanted to use the signal indicator stalk, but now I know, I'm learning quickly to avoid doing that - It's just a matter of adapting one's habits.

One thing that I really, really cannot understand is that the actual gearshifts themselves feel very noticeably smoother and seamless with the new paddles. I can't understand how that can be - Anyone got any suggestions?

Your probably just hyper sensitive to this at the moment,I bet its no different, its like the red s3 you mentioned spotting 2 recently it's because stuff that normally gets filtered by the brain doesn't when you are active in that area.  :nerd:

Maybe just a placebo effect.  Just like how your car always feels better after it's been for a service!  :undecided:

....I think that you and Top Cat are probably right. The fact that I no longer hear any click from the paddle may also be a contributing factor.
