sounds like a stupid question but how are you washing the car???
as someone said earlier in this thread (take your time) a dam good pre wash is a must as this will remove alot of the dust and grit which scratches your paint, start washing from the roof down, use a different set of gear for your wheels also.

Hi Oliver07
Good place to start, read up here on how to properly wash the car using the 2 bucket method.

Then see if your way of washing differs.
I have a decent wool wash mitt that I use on the roof, bonnet, boot and doors only from the rub strip upwards. I have an older wash mitt that I use on the door bottoms then front and rear valances. I machine wash them on a wool cycle on 40 degrees then tumble dry on low.

I always make sure I get the car as clean as I can before actually touching it by mit too. If it's really dirty (most washes..), it gets a pressure washer rinse, then an a pre-rinse (super snow foam atm), then another rinse all before I've touched it. Then per the above, start from the top, use different mits for the bits below bump strips, and another (attached to a pokey stick!), for the wheels. And then towels to dry rather than a chamois. If you've got a good layer of wax on before the car even gets dirty it'll help too.
